Looking for a new 5 wood.Any suggestions?

Hello everyone,

Hope you are all safe and not going crazy as I am. I'm 68 years old and don't have the swing speed I used to have.. Looking to replace my M2 5 wood with something a little easier to hit. I currently carry a Srixon 4 wood which I haven't been able to try out yet because all ranges and golf places are closed in my area. I also carry a Cobra F6 adjustable 7 wood which I like a lot. So, can someone give me any suggestions? I have between $100-$125 to spend.

Thanks, Gary :)

Bang for the buck, hard to beat Cobra, but find Ping one of the easiest to hit off the deck. Since you are limited in the funds dept., maybe an older model Ping 5W would do the trick?!

I have an F6 7 that is so easy to hit off the deck and tee. Found a new 5/6 on eBay with head cover for 100 bucks. Would like to try the Epic Flash but the price may be a little to high. I did find a Epic Flash Heavenwood that is in mint condition that I might bid on if the bid doesn't go up to high. Thanks guys for your help and have a great day and stay safe.

Gary :)

Staying with Callaway I would say the rogue 5 wood is pretty awesome and can be found for a good price. Ping is easy to launch from the deck. Titleist 915’s were fantastic as well. All can be had for a great price.

Agree with the comments others have left. For another inexpensive experiment, I have personally found the Taylormade Jetspeed to be very forgiving and easy to launch, but there isn't any adjustability. I currently use a Titleist 910f 5 wood at +0.75* and I love it - very versatile and forgiving, and can almost certainly be purchased in good condition for under $50.

If you like your Cobra 7 wood, why not look at other Cobra 5 woods?

But before buying anything, WAIT until you can hit your Srixon. If you don’t like it, DEMO several other woods. Don’t buy without testing. Make sure you like the head you’re buying first and get the right shaft for you.

It is most likely going to be difficult to find an Epic Flash FW (a great club, BTW) in decent condition for between $100 - $125. There have been some excellent suggestions here, and I would add that a great choice among Callaway FWs that you can get for about $75 in very good condition is the Steelhead XR. I also highly recommend the Cobra F8 and Tour Edge Exotics EXS (for the higher-handicap golfer) and Exotics CBX (for the better ball-striker and better FW woods player). All of these FWs can be found for between $80 - $110.

We all obviously love what we've bought. I bought the Cobra F8 in 3/4 and 5/6. Love them, great off the deck, great off the tee, long, cheap. I bought mine 6 months ago off the auction site for about $100 each, shipped, brand new.

They couldn’t have been that good, you sold them. Kidding.

I never played a Ping FW before. Picked up a G400 5 wood a couple weeks ago, and love it. You would have to bid and wait to find one in your price range. Or, the G model would easily be in your range.

The Ping is the easiest FW to elevate off the deck that I have ever played. I always used Cobra or Callaway in the past. Very shallow face on the Ping.

Good luck!
