Requiring registered voters to vote, or get fined?

OMG WE NEED THAT HERE!!!!

It is said that usually, general elections in the US are voted on by less than 40% of registered voters...some cases, 30% or less. I think the Presidential elections get about 50-55%.

It was instituted in Australia because of how remote most on the country was, it is not as bad now but in the centre there is a lot of space between people and no one was voting. You can postal vote, telephone vote, pre vote at designated places so they make it possible for everyone. When we decided to isolate the voting options from home had closed but with us both being over 70 there is no legal requirement to vote in local council elections, son is isolated with us and working from home so by going out and mixing with the other voters we thought it would be counter productive to what we were doing. We have everything we need home delivered, left at the front door. No signature required so we just spray it, handle it with gloves and post is isolated for 4days, grocery is washed with anti fungal soap. We can’t do any more to help ourselves so now the rest is in someone else’s hands.

hopefully this will go away fairly soon, not holding my breath though.

Good looking caddy Sixty ! Another good rule of the Grille is no one is obligated to give any explanation for anything

unless it pertains to how a certain lawnmower became lodged in the fork of a maple tree,8 feet from the ground. Now,

we really dont care why that happened, but since it gets started once a week and filled with fuel once a month,we just

know there is a good story behind it and we would need to be given the scoop ! Anything other than that, all is good !

Welcome back !

Well I'll be!!! A posting from Brother Sixty!!! Made me smile this morning, and log in to offer a welcome back. Cute "caddy" also. The pastures look a lot greener than they do here. Stay safe my fellow Grille brethren. Hunkering down is the M.O. for the foreseeable future. Save for the Mrs. and I walk around down when the weather permits. Really could use a sunny 60* day about now to lift the spirits. This CV business is weighing heavy.

Glad to hear from you again Sixty. Well our GOV shut down all the beaches ,boat access places and Marinas this morning. He did apologize to the law abiding citizens. What happened over the weekend and it was mostly Spring Breakers who were not supposed to be there anyhow. They were ganging 20 or 30 people on those platform or party boats and then tying up to other party boats. They were also congregating in groups of 20 or more on the beaches. Our County Police wrote a bunch of citations over the weekend. The Founders Group has temporarily shut down 8 of it's 20 courses now because they depend on motel packages mostly and the Gov has suspended all motel bookings and they have info neon signs out stating basically go home and stay but it does say " All Reservations Cancelled" . The silver lining in all of this is the fact the Founders Group is suffering because basically they have shunned the locals. My new course is down some but still open. Was out there this AM early and enjoyed my cigar and cup of coffee then walked 5 holes with my 8 club bag. Back home today and my retirement is official as of midnight tonight. They have cut hours at work to 40 max. Our pay period runs from Wednesday to Tuesday and I worked last Wed to yesterday and to be semi retired got 40 hrs. Do not know what steel prices are doing but I am supposed to go to a 20 to 25 hr week.

Ok Rad, so during the corona-virus, we have have been trying new things to eat. (new to us) We have been married for 46 years, and realized we have never had grits. (yeah, I know, they say people from the south can be slow, but) So my dear wife has been fixing grits every day since last Wednesday. Since then I have noticed some new things, good things. First off, we got this new puppy. Our daughter, who lives in Tennessee with her husband and children texted and was so happy, she said "Wow, y'all got a new puppy!" and I replied "yes, just like all of y'all" ?? Not sure where that came from... Then I started noticing all these nice birds returning from the south, so colorful. Next, the flowers in the yard started blooming. I told my dear Mrs. Sixty (who always wanted me to try grits "hey, these are really good". She about fell out of her chair. She said "fabulous, I'll make them all the time now, there's so many ways you can fix them!" I said "Well, don't be getting carried away now, I just said I like them". My social security check came the first day she fixed them (electronically of course). I found some new sneakers in my closet when cleaning it out (from corona boredom (yay) that I didn't remember buying. Could all this be from grits? If so, I think I may have her get some pork rinds!

Gotta agree with Sixty. It's time to go out and smell the roses (or whatever is blooming in your neighbourhood). Lots of wildlife here enjoying the spring weather, be it the multitudes of migratory birds who have returned or the hoard of local squirrels who have dug up my gardens looking for stored nuts.

I have a mystery shrub that is blooming and the daffodils are just days away. Very strange to hear lawnmowers at work this early in the season, but they have been out and about this past weekend.

The CV business is worrisome. AFAIK there are no cases here in town or the surrounding communities, but there are plenty further on down the highway. I suppose it's only a matter of time. I haven't seen anyone deliberately flaunting the rules, but there have been a few situations where you roll your eyes, but perhaps they say that about me cause I'm not wearing a face mask and disposable gloves (which are relatively useless in preventing contracting the disease and take the supply away from those who need them -- frontline healthcare workers). Still, as I devise ways of keeping myself busy in order to endure what could be a prolonged lockdown to fight the spread, I'm finding myself frustrated by the daily announcement of some new measure to keep people indoors in their homes.

-----------------------------

AS an aside, since making my post on the weekend asking whether anyone else was seeing the advertising for a mature dating service, I have had nothing but very generic ads for a variety of benign goods or services. I guess the powers that be must have flipped a switch somewhere in the great unknown!

We through several unrelated incidents have allowed our garden to become a wasteland filled with long grass and weeds. This isolation is doing a good job for our garden as it is now my main occupation, several hours every day mainly weeding. Son working from home is also working out well as he starts one hour early, does not have an hours journey home so spends an hour in the garden doing the heavy work each day.the working from home is doing so well for his employers that the IT department is now being considered for permanent home working even when this is all over, valuable room has been freed up and the business is paying out less for power etc and son can claim some of our house expenses against his income tax.

win win.

Wow, now that’s a big boy breakfast. We try to treat ourselves to one of those on Saturdays.

Wife does a Western omelet with French fries and I go with French toast with an egg over easy on top and thick link sausage on the side ; )

Here in NYC we are all very serious about social distancing as you all are as well, of course.

But, fortunately, there’s a big park to walk with a nice bike loop to go cycling in. But the other day, I saw this guy waking out of the park with a couple of wedges and thought, hey, nice idea to do a little chipping.

Big cheers to you very fine gents and let’s all stay safe and buckle down and maybe, just maybe, we can have a nice summer with some golf!

Another first world problem, our chairs that should have been delivered by next week will now be possibly with a lot of luck and a miricle will now be delivered in early May, that is if the shop is open, if the warehouse is open to take them and if the delivery drivers are still being employed.

so the final part of our renovation is on hold so no pics as yet. Bummer.?

Hey Sixty congrats on discovering grits which are a staple in our house. On the pork rind things let me suggest a dipping sauce easy to make. Take regular Frenches mustard not the fancy Dijon kind and mix a little Texas Pete in it. Mix the "Hot Pete" according to your hot taste.

Bought a new notebook a couple of weeks back along with a portable hard drive. Got the computer within a few days, but the hard drive is MIA. The delivery window was between the 19th and the 30th. I'll have to check into this tomorrow because I have no idea where it is or when it will arrive. It's not a necessity. I could always just buy more cloud space for back-up and forgo the hard drive, but if that's going to be the case I need to get a refund.

Trying our best to support the creaky wheels of commerce from the seclusion of our home, but it's a bit of a test right now. Just ordered a bike part this afternoon. Maybe I should set up a pool to see who can get the delivery date the closest?

Finally the Australian government has had a brainwave. A Chinese owned company employing hundreds has been making its employees purchase medical good for the company who then ship hundreds of tons of essential medical supplies needed urgently in Australia to China. They have finally after knowing this has been going on banned any export of these goods.

We bought a new pressure washer on eBay from a vendor in NY state on Tuesday. It arrived today. As far as I know buying things

on sites like eBay, Amazon, etc. is working just fine. Fedex, UPS and USPS have all delivered to us recently and seems to be business

as usual with them; other than social distancing as they do their jobs.

I think there is a lot more commerce going on than we might think.

I was at our local small town baby Walmart supercenter earlier today and the shelves were very noticeably much less empty than

before. I even saw lots of TP and PT on the shelves. The panic buying seems to be calming down around here......well, I hope so.

1,077 covid19 cases in our state, 14 in the county in which we live though I have been unable to pin down exactly where those

14 cases are.......so have to assume almost everyone is a risk and have to stay diligent about social distancing when out and about.

Still gonna play golf tomorrow.......................

Well, golf is off today as my playing partners have decided to stop playing until this calms down. I suppose I should take the cue

and give golf a break for a bit as the situation continues to grow worse. Probably the wise thing to do if I'm being honest with

myself, even though the courses remain open for play................so far.

LOL Yeah, they were telling everyone to maintain 6 feet of distance, while the stage was packed elbow to elbow behind them.

I always wondered why the mask was so important due to most masks are to prevent YOU from infecting others.....and if the mask is important, then they have known all along that it was airborne transmitted. Nice to know that I am not the only one who realizes that there are some oddities !
