The counter to that is what makes it more difficult? Just the extra yardage? What if it is a better angle? What if it suits a players ball flight better to play a longer tee with a different angle. Are you really going to say that is ok? Every hole has the same tee markers for this tour. Every week. Play from the correct tee or it’s a dq.

If 1 guy makes the mistake then you can argue it's his mistake, if 14 guys make the mistake then the organizers screwed up. That said, the rules are clear, the DQ was warranted. But the organizers need to get their heads of out their **** and "DQ" themselves from organizing tournaments for a while.

This is complete 20/20 hindsight - I'm sure guys were just making the assumption (cue Tony Randall in The Odd Couple) they were playing the back tees. No idea if this was the only set of back tees they didn't play, but being the 3rd hole, likely the first set (but don't know that). It would have been nice had someone foreseen the issue (forget about the distance thing on the scorecard) and simply had a sign up on the back tee telling them "Outlaws git along up the trail another box".

Probably lesson learned and again 20/20 hindsight for whomever set up the course.

Hawk they don’t really “set up” the course for these events. They were 60 of about 175 players on the course that day. Public play was before and after these guys went out. The tour admin probably went out and put the tee markers out right in front of the first group and picks them up behind the last group. This tour’s tee markets are blatantly obvious, and it’s a 3 day event. There is no way the yardage plays the same as the scorecard on any hole each day. Even the big tour makes changes to tees every day. You might see 196 on the tv graphic but their card doesn’t say that. Tees and hole locations can be moved away from where it was planned the morning of play depending on wind, turf or in the case of a mini tour if the guy putting out tee markers sees a rattlesnake or two javelinas banging on the planned tee box will make a switcheroo.

All true, and you are right in the 3 day event part - the sign thing wouldn't make a lot of sense in that context.

And these guys that played wrong played from 234 (club tees) not from the 222 or whatever the official card was (was that just a regular course scorecard?) so 234 isn't 222 pretty much like 204 isn't 222, so it's not like the wrong tees matched the card either. Oh well.
