Paperclips?

Looks like every active thread now has paperclips to the left side - just curious what they mean.

I haven't checked all of them (of course) but all the threads I did look at had a paperclip when there were pictures and no PC when there weren't any. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

HOWEVER, I suspect if the "ad posts" sprinkled in the thread every 3-5 posts or so by the site, count as an attachment. Seems as though ALL the threads with enough posts to have an "ad post" inserted have the paperclip, "normal" attachment or not. LOL

No pics or anything unusual in this thread but it got the paperclip.

Still looks like the only ones without are either locked or have zero responses, so doesn't really narrow the playing field.

Edit: wrong-o, just saw some locked threads with paperclips - I give up!

I assumed it was a bug/software malfunction. If that was a conscious decision, I am lost for words. They look terrible and add no value to the user whatsoever.

Could be a miss, but the naming convention on the css-class that element has would lend itself that this thread has an attachment applied to it. But I don't see any attachments on various threads that I look at.

 

 

The inspected element is highlighted in gray, the class name is on the right - .Item.Has-Attachment......

I agree that the intent seems to be designating threads with attachments, however, since any post following the OP triggers the clip, the implementation is not achieving that goal.

Just remove the damn things. they're distracting and don't bring any benefit. Do you guys ever build a test site and invite some users over to evaluate things? I'm sure a lot of what you've done would be poo-poo'd quickly that way.

Better than most places. Shelter in place. Club golf course was closed by the city/county earlier this week, but re-opening on Wednesday. The county provided further clarification of exercise in open space areas so we get to re-open. Hope things are OK for ya'll up north.

Why would anyone care if there’s an attachment in a GolfWrx thread? Crazy idea, but why don’t you start testing the changes you make to the site?

What's even worse is that they're not even displayed properly.

Sometimes I get a full paperclip, sometimes just parts of it. These need to go asap.

There appears to be an actual correlation between the number of lines for a thread title (on my phone right now) and more lines squeezing out the paper clip. Maybe a real relationship? It’s a meaningless one, but there it is.

I'd appreciate an explanation at least of what purpose they are supposed to serve. If there is one I haven't seen it and I have looked in the various forum help sections
