Bridgestone Golf Tour B 2020 Lineup

Yep - but some people might just want 1-2 boxes to try out and pay a few bucks more instead of having 4 on hand, spend $100, and not like them.

Depends I guess.

I'm still buying 2018 B X and B XS balls for $20-26 shipped on amazon right now so I havent even moved to the 2020 yet.

Did you choose the Titleist ProV1 because of their well known mixed box promotions?

I don't think any of the big brands sells a mixed box of their tour ball.

I also don't think choosing between the BX and BXS should be that hard coming from Titleist. Do you play the ProV1 because you like it's slightly lower spin? If so, the BX is the slightly lower spinning ball of the two. Do you play the ProV1 because it feels better than the ProV1x? If so, then the BXS should suit you. Other than the feel, I doubt you'll notice much on course difference between the two balls. If you're swing speed is above 120, you might see a few yards of carry extra on the X. But there's only going to be a few hundred RPM's difference on iron shots between them and without a launch monitor, you're unlikely to ever be able to differentiate it by eye.

The average guy cannot tell too much difference outside of feel. Play what suits your eye and what feel you like......trying to pick a ball with a spin rate 150rpms higher or lower doesnt make any sense......and once you get down to the 8I range, all spin rates are so close...it doesnt make a difference.....i think golfers in these forums get so bogged down in the details that make very little impact on scoring, its crazy....unless you are a scratch golfer or better, the small differences in spin rates and launch angles are just too small to make any significant impact on your game.....feel is probably more important than anything else when you have tour level balls that all test withing a % point of each other.

The golf course was empty 2 weeks ago, so I was able to test multiple balls. My test included the TP5 (current gamer), TP5X, ProV1, ProV1X, Tour BX and Tour BXS. All balls were the current models.

The Bridgestone balls did well against their competition. I think they are on to something with the new cover. My favorite was the Tour BX. The BXS spun a little too much for my swing.

Some random notes from my test:

All the balls were inside 5 yards of each other off the tee.The ProV1x and BX were the firmest feeling, as they should be.All gave excellent green side spin and felt good off the putter. To give some data on me, my SS is around 105 and I'm currently playing to an 8.7 handicap with weekly Sunday golf outings.

I could really play any of these balls and would agree with tsecor's comment above. Play the one that feels the best and suits your eye. I don't think I will switch from TP5's this season, but I would probably go with ProV1's if I made a move. My test outing made me realize how much I like putting and chipping with a ProV.

I agree with these, there are the top 3 premium balls as of right now and the only ball choices for me, personally. I have few dozens of each of these 6 diff models and just rotate them each month, just to not get bored playing same model/brand. But all 6 are pretty much the same. The longest for me its the new Tour BX but its only like 4-5 yards more than the rest , not much.

But see it is. And the reason I say this is that I prefer the ProV1 to the X due to the lower trajectory. I prefer that ball flight because I don’t have a problem hitting the ball high. I also like the feel of the ball. So it would be nice to have a combo pack to try out especially when supposed big changes are made. That was my point.

I play the TP5 as well.....and TBH the only real difference i see is when its noticeably windy outside. The TP5 has always flown straighter for me....and the feel is great. im not into the looks of the larger double dimple of the bridgestone.....even though i bet the QC of the bridgestone is probably better than Titleist.

The big changes don't have anything to do with trajectory. I doubt the naked eye would be able to see the difference in trajectory from the ProV1 to the ProV1x or the BX to the BXS. We're talking fractions of a degree of launch between the two balls and a few yards of peak height difference with a driver. With a wedge or iron the differences in trajectory would be indistinguishable to anything but a launch monitor. I honestly would be choosing the two balls based only on feel and swing speed. If you're up over 115 or so, I'd always suggest playing the firmer ball. Below that pick the softer one if you like that feel.

If you really want to try the two different balls, just buy a sleeve of each.

They (Bridgestone) does in Japan. I'm hoping they eventually make their way over here.

Does it make any sense that I like to hit the XS on short Par 4's and 3's but prefer the RX on Long Par 4s and 5's?

I want a ball that spins less on those longer holes, should I be going with the X?

My swing speed is under 105 but not by much, and the new BXS and RX are both longer off the tee and spinier around greens than my previous long time gamer (RznTP).

BX will be firmer than both but most certainly falls right between the two for spin characteristics.

Also, with BX being the firmer of the three, most will find it the longest off the driver.

For me BX gave me exactly what I was looking for - Long and stable tee balls with with controlled fight and spin into the greens.

for feel i’d go bxs it’s a good “soft ball” but not a marshmallow by any means. the flight i think is high but i like that when playing. good ball around the greens.

snell mtb is close for me to the bxs, for some reason it just doesn’t pump out the distance with irons like the bxs does, although it’s consistent distances you not getting extra consistency. the bxs can get me with every club about 5-7 yards better then any ball i have found to try for me.

The BXS The BXS will feel most similar to the ProV1 but have similar spin characteristics to the ProV1x. The BX will feel similar to the ProV1x (though I find it's a little less clicky) but its spin characteristics are closer to the ProV1. We're only talking a few hundred RPM's of spin at most between the balls, so unless you have a swing speed over 115, I'd just pick the one that feels best.

Played 18 holes with the RX yesterday and still very impressed with this ball. Having played the previous version of the RX, this just feels like a different ball. Seems a little softer, longer, and more predictable on pitches into the green. I've decided to continue using it instead of the Z Stars that I had been playing.
