SIM driver guys - talk about it

Ha ha hardly!

just a very high ball hitter, my AOA is around +5*, I’m only swinging 105-110 as an absolute max.

Thats the only reason I have added distance, launch are spin are getting towards that more optimal window

10.5 Sim set upright with weight neutral. Shaft is Venus Blue with Velocore at 45 inches. I only got two rounds and one range session in before courses were shut down. The big left miss is gone and now it is straight to a small cut which I love. Set at completely neutral it was going right which was a big chance from my previous driver.

I had m5 tour. Hit the mavrik at demo days so I bought ther mavrik sz. It was crazy long on good shots, but crazy income.

We t to ther sim max and have been seriously impressed. Longer than mavrik sz on average for me.

SIM 9* w/Accra RP472 M5+ @45" currently, but ordered a Ventus Black 7X and UST LINQ Gunmetal 7X for variety and curiosity's sake. Weight is neutral, as is loft sleeve, which works perfectly for me. If I did anything, I'd adjust the loft down and weight out to toe. Finally cracking 170 BS with 2200-2300 spin consistently without losing control of dispersion.

It's like the best mix of my G400 and ST190, that didn't improve enough for me in their latest models. Not that they're bad, but SIM is a complete surprise since I haven't touched a TM since R7 425 and R9 Super-Tri days.

would love to hear your thoughts with the Ventus black and the UST LinQ Gunmetal. Got to hit the LinQ purple during my SIM fitting and it was the best feeling shaft I got to hit on the day but had a few misses to the left. The Gunmetal grey option intrigues me

Can anyone speak to a stock fade setup with this driver? I recently bought a Ventus 6x that I'd like to put a SIM head on to compare to my G410+ and Accra TZ5.

IN MY TESTING.., regular sim with ventus was very fade biased. Ventus is no joke... stiffer tip kept it from turning over as well.

Re-posting this here (also posted in the Ventus thread in Tour & Pre-release)

Initial findings from on course testing between my Ping G410+ and Taylormade SIM. I hit about 20 drives with each, on various holes with varying wind directions.Ping G410+ Setup

Accra TZ5 M5 (70 grams)1 degree flat (lie angle)Weight in toe (fade)Playing at 9* loftTotal weight 334gTaylormade SIM Setup

Fujikura Ventus Black 6x (65 grams)Weight in centerPlaying at 9* loft (turned down from 10.5* default)Total weight 329gNotes

On comparable shots (height, shot shape, etc), the SIM/Ventus was about 7-10 yards longer. I had at least two drives from SIM that were easily 15+ yards longer.I've been playing the G410+ for a year, and the slightly additional weight is something my body is very attuned to. My consistency was overall better with the G410+.With the SIM setup, I was able to produce a very reliable low-spin fade on well struck shots (exactly what I'm looking for). However, possibly due to the lighter overall weight, I hit a couple severe hooks. The G410+ on sub-optimal strikes tended to spin more. Today was a fairly windy day, so that added spin impacted overall carry much more on the G410+ than with the SIM.I didn't hit a single "spinny" shot with the SIM. Even hit one high on the face and carry was minimally affected.I feel the head more with my G410+ and Accra TZ5, even with the shaft being 5 grams heavier. I like this more than the lighter SIM.I've been working on not allowing my upper body to "stall out" on the downswing. When I focused on forcing my shoulders to continue opening up, the SIM really started to shine. My G410+ felt stuck behind me at times and produced a push fade miss to the right, whereas the SIM produced a fade that started just left of my line and came back to.

I don't know if any of this information will be helpful to anyone, but I figured I'd write it up while it's fresh in my mind. At this point I am still undecided, but am going to potentially try adding weight to the SIM to bring it in line with my G410+ and then do some more comparisons.

If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer.

Maybe look at adding a little more weight to the SIM head?

Yeah, that's the plan. Mentioned it in my last paragraph. Should I go hotmelt or does SIM have heavier weights I can buy?

It really depends on you and what you can very slightly improve on. I tried adding lead tape along the back and couldn't find consistency.

4g isn't going to change a whole lot. In the front track the weight

-will make the head feel a bit heavier

-will tend to help slow face rate of closure

-will tend to drop launch and spin just a touch

-will increase gear effect (how much club/ball contact makes the ball spin)

More weight in the back will tend to do the opposite of what I listed.

I've never been super comfortable with the Taylormade drivers. I produce good numbers on a launch monitor, but on the course they never felt that great to me, and the heads seem to pursue low spin in exchange for forgiveness, making them unnecessarily difficult to play consistently day in and day out.

Has the SIM brought anything new to the table, or is this just the same thing from TM again this year in a new package? I'm probably going to pick up a TS3 this year, but I'd consider the SIM driver if something is really different.

BTW, don't buy anything TM from eBay. It's fake as often as it's not. Support your local shop or buy online from a well known retailer.

I ordered from monark. I would go with monark or golf works. Too many sellers with crap goods from China that aren't to spec on ebay. Tried a ts3 last year and bought a weight for it. The weight was supposed to be 8 or 10g and it wasnt even 2g. The magnet on the weight wasn't even a magnet. Just a plastic cap. Cheap garbage.

Had a fitting for the SIM hybrid and there was a SIM driver 10.5 with stock Diamana stiff shaft. Had no interest in a new driver as my M5 was mint!!!

Had a few swings and it was flying to the back of the range. Jumped on the trackman and was driving 250m carry (275 yards). M5 couldn’t get past 235. Switched shafts and heads around and nothing close to SIM with stock. Dispersion way tighter too.

Next & final round with M5 was the best driving round I’ve ever had. Golf huh! ??‍♂️

SIM is amazing. Going to get the 3 wood next.

I would never have guessed that the hottest shaft at the moment was the worst performer for me in the SIM. The Ventus Black isn't a poorly made shaft, but it felt lifeless in comparison to the other two. Most shots for me are within 5mm and the UST was getting more ballspeed production and smash factor. On the course the UST was easiest to hit down 7/7 fairways , opposed to the 6/7 with the Accra and 5/7 with Ventus. The Accra is the most stable on mishits, whereas I really don't mishit the LinQ GM as the profile must really suit me best. I'm probably going to sell the Ventus and swap around the other two for awhile longer.

SIM 10.5 tuned down one notch to 9.75 to open the face a bit and like many others take the left side out of play. Fujikura Ventus Black 6x, no tipping. Had a G410 LST previous with the same shaft and while it was an amazing driver, and I dont have any numbers, I have no doubt hit a handful of drives that the 410 would have gotten no where near. And I had previously thought it was the longest driver I had ever hit. Both sound and feel are better to me and I think it looks better. All that and better performance. As stated I dont have numbers but spin is visually lower. Much flat flight and roll out is greater as well.

Stay Tuned...

SIM 9.0 at standard. Track weight all the way to heel. Graphite Design AD-IZ 6S at 45.5". Absolute beast and favorite driver to date. Can finally hit draws and fades on command off the tee (was previously a fade/cut player only).
