Ping postponing 2020 Releases

Recommended Posts

Ok, another update. Went to play this afternoon and spoke to my pro who is a Ping Staffer. I told him what I heard. He got on the phone right there and called his rep. Before I left his office he had word from his rep all releases are delayed until the PGA Show 2021. That is direct from a Ping representative. He said Ping follows a fairly strict timeline on launches. With this delay, they could easy release something this year but it would push the next release well beyond the PGA show and get them completely off cycle. So that's what I got today. Actually makes me feel even better about Ping products. They're just going to do things the right way.

I know this sucks for this year, but can you imagine all the hype leading into next year's PGA Show?! Especially if Titleist, Srixon, and Mizuno follow suit.....It's going to be insane!

I can tell you, no. They're not getting slashed. They're too new and they were released. We sold quite a few sets too before all this. Most are stuck in Phoenix...

I'm in Colorado. Private club as well. Club itself is shut down, but tee sheet and the course is open. We can walk or ride in private carts (so long as we're not riding with people outside our household). Cups are upside down, flagsticks stay in. Rakes have been picked up--we foot rake and find a reasonable lie to play out of. No water on the course to minimize touch points and we download the scorecard from the website. And tee times went from 9 minute intervals to 12. But we can play. Pre-covid, if you wanted a time during the week, you could easily get one and you could usually get times on the weekend after 2:30 or 3 pm. None of that now. The tee sheet is absolutely jam packed every day but Monday (when the course is closed for maintenance). I've got several guys in my group who were looking at buying new sticks this year (including myself, as I was waiting for the new Ping releases). Now I'm weighing other options against waiting another whole year.

Yeah certainly disappointing. Currently playing p790s which are fine irons, but I'm a Ping guy. Like the feel and thinner topline of the i210s over the p790s. Wanted to see the next I series and then make a decision between them, p790s, or discounted i210s.

I'll just press with p790 until Jan 21 and work to get my iron and hybrid gapping and lower flight fixed that the p790 lofts cause. Bent 1-2 degrees weak should do.

Let me tell you what Wooderson is packin'

Sim2 Max 15°
Ping G410 21°
Ping G425 22°/25°
Ping G430 6-PW AWT Stiff

Would not want to lead anyone to think I have any info on price drops but my speculation would be we would see Ping be reactionary and not proactive. If we get a new driver and irons release in February from them, I would think they drop prices again before the holidays to catch that bump. That's when they dropped the 410 line from $499t to $399 last year. They still have G400s out there at $299 to fill that price gap. You never know though. If you see big drops from TM, Cally, Cobra etc and their sales skyrocket, maybe Ping goes early to $299. I would put my money on the holidays though.

It is going to be interesting to see how the releases will go in the next year or two. I am wondering if they'll do a blue print with the black finish from the G710. Too damn nice looking.

I'll say this though, just before all this bullcrap happened with Covid, I tried a few Ping irons at the store just to mess around. I was messing around with the S55 and the Blue Prints. Both were incredible. I totally get what you guys like about them now.

Gosh that's hard to say. My son outright stole my G410s last week. Just took them out of my bag and put his old Callaway's in there!

But when I hit the 710s, they were easier than the 410s. Not by a massive margin, but they were definitely easier to get airborne. The wider sole definitely did it's job. It was enough to be noticeable and pleasurable.

If you don't mind me asking.... What's your handicap? How many times do you play in a week/month/year? Swing speed? Age?

My wife and I just had a baby and I will only be playing once a week. Currently play the IE1 irons. 4,5 and even 6 are tough. 410s can he had for cheap but I actually hit the G710 and the feel was a lot better then the 410s. 710s are on the high end of pricing.
