Is this a "Float Load"?

I've always thought of myself as a "down-cocker." Is that the same as being a "float loader"?

 

This video is taken from in front of the perpendicular, so it looks WAAAAY back in my stance. In reality, it's back of middle for sure, but not that far back...

Obes, I think that is float loading, but Monte or Dan can certainly say for sure.

Looks it to me. Not as obvious as in a longer swing where to club gets much more parallel to the ground/overhead, but looks it to me nonetheless.

It’s not a horrible float load where the wrist set is late or non existent.

 

I see the issue as lack of movement of the right shoulder.

Yeah, I have always had a shortish backswing, and with my back issues, it's just gotten shorter and shorter.

You can make a bigger backswing and put less stress on your back. That backswing is not doing your back any favors.

It's the through swing that hurts. Not in that video, though. I was feeling fine there.

 

I've tried to get more hip and shoulder turn. Lift my heel a bit. No bueno contact-wise. Need a lot of reps to ingrain it.

This may sound like the same thing and you will get some more hip and shoulder turn as a result, but the right shoulder needs to move more and toward the target. You also need to extend at the waist to do this.

It seems like I would need to let go of my safety blanket (keeping my right elbow pretty much in contact with my right chest).

 

When I allow there to be separation there, much easier to move the right shoulder toward the target.

yes. Here’s the problem with your swing....and about a third to half my clients fall into this category.

 

Great players with homemade swings that are very functional. They hit their 50’s and 60’s and the game and distance disappear almost over night as they are no longer physically able to compensate.

 

As we get older, we must get more efficient.

Well, my game sure isn't disappearing, at least. Playing and scoring as well as I ever have. Performing under pressure FAR better than ever.

 

But definitely losing distance and I fear for the next five years. I want to be a top senior am from 55 to 62. I can hang with the best now, but I'm 52. 3 more years til I'm "official." Would love to get more efficient, of course.

Oh my, that’s me! At 59-years of age, I won a senior long drive contest. I am now 62-years old and I struggle to carry my driver 240 yards. My driver swing speed has gone from 112 mph to 98 mph seemingly overnight. It’s depressing. I took 2 lessons and the conclusion is, I need to quiet my hands and improve my flexibility. Quiet my hands? I’ve been a handsie player my whole life! Help..,☹️

I agree with Monte completely but having said that, it would take some significant effort to change and in doing so you might go backwards before you go forwards. Also, you shot 66 today so...
