I just completed a fitting session at True Spec Golf in Naples, Florida and it was quite an experience. Loren David was my club fitter and he is one of the best in the business! Loren’s knowledge about the game and products was out of this world. I was there about 4 hours and we did a full bag fitting.

My golf bag entering the fitting consisted of:

Driver: Ping G410 LST 9 - Project X Even Flow Black 6.0 75 - Neutral Setting

3 Wood: Taylormade M3 15 - Matrix Ozik Black Tie 80M4 S - Lower Setting

Hybrid: Titleist 910h 17 - Mitsubishi Rayon Diamana ‘ahina 90 S - A1 Setting

Irons: Srixon 765 (4-PW) - KBS C Taper 120 S

Wedges: Taylormade Tour Preferred EF 50.09, 54.11, 58.10 - KBS C Taper 130 X

Putter: Scotty Cameron Phantom X6 STR - Super Stroke Pistol GT Tour 2.0

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x

I really like my current set up and thought it fit me pretty good, so going into the fitting I thought it was going to be tough to beat.

We started the fitting session by testing out irons. I started out with my current 7iron and the averages were 120mph ball speed, 170 carry. This gave us a good place to start. We begin testing the Srixon 765 with the Modus Tour, Project X LZ 6.0, and Oban CT 115. None of these could beat my current gamer so we were set on KBS C Taper 120 S. We then went to different heads: Taylormade P760, Ping i210, Honma TR20 V. The Taylormade P760 had slightly higher ball speed than my Srixon’s, but the distance was identical. The Ping i210 looked good, but just had a bit too much spin. I hit a few balls with the Honma TR20 V and could just tell they were different. My ball speed went up 5mph and I picked up 8 yards of carry. The flight was identical to my current gamers it just stayed in the air longer. We ended up going +1/4” and 1.5 degrees flat, with Tour Velvet Midsize Plus 4 with +2 layers of tape. My current gamers were +1/4”, standard lie, and Tour Velvet Jumbo.

After we decided on Irons we moved onto the Driver. Driver was pretty simple we tested my current Ping G410 LST vs the SIM and Mavrik SZ. The SIM produced similar numbers as my Ping and the Mavrik SZ was slightly behind. I hit a handful of shafts and ended up picking up a few mph of ball speed and about 8 yards carry 12 yards total distance with the Ventus Blue 6X. The shaft felt great and was still smooth. Having a little stiffer shaft I could go at it harder and not worry about missing left.

We tested 3W and hybrids, but the results weren’t much different than my current gamers so we didn’t do anything there.

The wedges were a pretty simple testing process as well I tested the Taylormade MG 2, Vokey SM8, and Cleveland RTX 4. The SM8’s and RTX 4 performed almost identical with the MG 2 slightly behind. I ended up going with the SM8’s Brushed Steel 50.08 F, 54.10 S, and 58.08 M. We did end up going to the new KBS 610 Wedge S+.

I will post pics once the clubs arrive from Tour Spec in less than 2 weeks. I expect my old driver shafts, irons, wedges to hit the classifieds soon.
