Do people still hate golfers?

Everything! I've had dispatch send me calls from people who got email from African princes promising money. It would never dawn on me to call 911 for that, but there are folks who do.

Exactly, A public park is space paid for by tax payers for multi use sports and rec. A golf course is a business (most are privately owned but even if it's a county course) that is dedicated for a purpose which is conducting the business of golf which cost a pretty penny to the private owner or county to maintain.

APPLES AND ORANGES and a horrible comparison to make.
@Edaw68 I'm sure that's what happened but unless the park states golf isn't permitted it doesn't make it right to wrongly enforce the will of a nosey neighbor who has nothing better to do than rain on someones parade. In fact it encourages more nonsense calls from people like that.

You are correct, shouldn't enforce what people "want" if it isn't a law. Who knows what kind of obscure city regulations may exist though. But that's why cops have discretion, and (hopefully) common sense.

1000% agree. I use to have a neighbor like that, she used the police like her own private army until they finally told her if she calls again for anything other than an actual emergency they would fine her for wasting emergency services haha. They never got another call. BTW thanks for the work you do out there, it's a tough job.

for me I really couldn't care less what people think about golfers.

If people say they hate the game of golf, they're saying that they hate that how they score during the game.

Me?

I feel different regardless of score.

So many people are concerned about how they play and how their playing partners scored.

I personally don't judge my happiness off of that.

When you are out on the course and there is nothing between you and the flag except lush flowing grass from the fairway, and the tightly cut grass from the green, how could you ever complain?

Golf is meant to be enjoyed for what it is, and what it is, is BEAUTIFUL.

The nature of the land and all of it's surroundings should allow us to feel grateful for even being able to play.

Golf is a sport that should be appreciated.

Not a sport associated with hatred from the lack of ability to successfully score.

As a black guy, this thread literally made me fall out of my chair laughing. The police hate me because I was playing golf in the park during quarantine. LMAO!!!!!

It was even better the second time because I imagined Dave Chapelle reading it in his 'white man voice'

You definitely didn't read it twice because you would have seen the multiple times i wrote that i didn't "really" feel like i was the target of anything malicious, and agreed with multiple posters who suggested he was probably following local guidelines as he understood them.

Bottom line is, you shouldn't be playing golf anywhere but a golf course or practice range. Despite being a "taxpayer" and feeling as if it's your birthright to do as you please.

Don't be such a cheapskate and a nuisance to others. Also, don't be such a martyr for being told to leave. You were doing something inappropriate at a public facility designed for other activities.

OP you can play here in Tenn and not worry about it. Our courses were never closed, and now the practice facilities are going again. Keep your face mask on when you practice!!

Im going to ask the mods to lock this. All in all this was a pretty fun and respectful thread.....given the clickbaity title this could've gone other ways but most posters provided some really rational reasons for why the policeman spoke to me, and the reasons i arguably shouldn't be doing that in a park

At this point i don't think any more views are forthcoming and i have moved on, and as mentioned was never that upset about it in the first place

I am concerned this will go down paths that are not productive

Yes people should hate golfers. With everything surrounding COVID-19, the deaths, devastation, economy...... Everytime I read golfers complaining that they are inconvenienced & should be playing I just roll my eyes.....

And yes I play 100 rounds/yr in a 6 month window & haven't touched a club since November 2019.

I could care less if their jealous, I am going to go on as usual. Plus I will practice on school property/ public fields when no one is around. So many people wanting to tell other people what to do. Be safe and be careful, and you should be good to go. I am not staying home and I have been going to work as well, essential(whatever) personnel.
