Has anyone tried a 18* Cobra Utility iron in one length? Also looking at getting a driving iron for hitting off the tee.

Depends what you want. If you want a more hybrid-like flight but it looks like an iron, then U85 is the best IMO, then maybe something like the new Titleist U510. If you want a more "players" look and lower spin lower launch flight, then P790, U500, TMB or maybe GAPR Lo would be where I'd look. There's also Apex but... when I used it I did not like it at all, it was a very short blade length and an odd amount of offset.

I tried theirs at the Chicago golf show and really liked it. The ball explodes off the face and it seemed pretty forgiving. I already own a set of their irons so I know their equipment is top notch.

Being a lefty options are limited for me but I'm leaning towards the P790, Cobra Forged Tec, Titleist U500 or Ping G410 Crossover. So 2 are driving irons and 2 are just hollow body irons, what I end up with will depend on numbers and shaft.

I already play the 585's down to 4i, I might go with the 3i but might want something hotter, example the P790 the ball rockets off the club with my swing. It will get tested most likely as well.

+1 Titleist U510. I play the 2i (18*) w/ HZRDUS Smoke 80 Hybrid and love it. Easy to hit, pretty forgiving and long. I play it off the deck and tee w/ no problems. That said, I am having the GOST shaft put in it. Should be back from the shop this coming week. Can't wait to hit it.

My MP20 SEL 3 iron is my driving iron. The MP20 SEL (mp20 lefty edition) 3 iron is the HMB and comes stock at 18°. So far it's great, most forgiving long iron I've ever played.

I'm a lefty also, I got a ZU85 18 bent to 19. The 18 went a little too far for my gapping, but it's one of my favorite clubs in the bag right now. I have it in a hybrid shaft and the thing just works. Hot off the tee and still good enough turf interaction off the deck.

I tried the U85 and while nice not quite my thing. Always felt like I lost where the head was at when at the top of my swing and just couldn't get a clean strike.

Also lately I've found I don't like seeing the backside of an iron much, some weird mental trigger makes me swing different.

The U85 is nice just not what I'm looking for.

Driving irons are tough because they are a big time confidence club. All the specs on paper in the world won't matter if it doesn't inspire visual confidence. @Z1ggy16 is right in that you can, and should, break them down into your "iron-like" and "hybrid-like" options. Seeing which one you prefer will help your selection process as you can then eliminate a good chunk of them if you have a strong preference for one side or the other.
The chunkier hybrid-like DI's such as the Srixon U-series, Titleist U510, GAPR Mid etc etc will launch higher, spin a little more, have bigger soles for a more hybrid-like turf interaction, and generally be more forgiving.
The slimmer iron-like DI's such as the P790's/UDI, Titleist TMB/U500, PING G410 Crossover, Callaway UTs etc etc will launch and spin lower, have more traditional soles for more iron-like turf interaction, and be generally less forgiving.
Then you also have the third sort of "dark horse" category in the GI and SGI long irons which will often fit in between the two categories above. Personally I think the 2016 M2 Tour irons are killer DI's and long iron replacements, especially since they are stronger lofted which makes bending them weaker to remove offset a viable option for slightly more traditional gapping.
Another really important factor is shaft choice, mostly related to weight. Sometimes there can be overly light, softer graphite shafts fitted stock and they can really feel out of place next to the irons in your set if you're playing more traditional weighted steel. A good rule of thumb(s) is to either use the same shaft as your iron set, a slightly lighter version of the same shaft within 10-25g, or an equivalent graphite shaft. I personally love the formula that I have in my bag below; one with the steel from the set and the other, longer iron with a heavy weight graphite option.

I own a Callaway X driving iron, it is very forgiving, but I feel that my hybrid gives me better results overall, it is 20* forged with an ADDI 105x (same as hybrid), truly a great club...

Many good clubs mentioned already.

It boils down to what would best fit your swing. I hit the Titleist 716 T-MB with a mid launch steel shaft, because I like the way it looks, feels, I can shape and flight it, plus it seamlessly matches my set.

If I were seeking distance alone, I would have went with the P790 in a graphite shaft. It was low spin, but that’s not what I was seeking. It was long, but I was looking for more than just distance. I was looking to flight, shape and gap as well.

There are many factors that would go into a purchase for me like my launch, spin, angle of attack, swing speed, gapping, ability to flight/shape etc:......

Perhaps people could give you some better insight on a purchase recommendation if you gave a bit more info about your swing and goals.

jhave...went to college at Canisuis College, lived in Buffalo for 5 years after college. I currently have a U510 and I love how the high it and the piercing flight, but you can player with a Srixon U85, a well maded club.

@Drivingrangehero There are many factors that would go into a purchase for me like my launch, spin, angle of attack, swing speed, gapping, ability to flight/shape etc:......Agree very much with the above, last season I went on search for a hybrid replacement since I was often launching it too high and with a big risk of hooking it. Hence my primary goal was finding a club launching a bit lower and less prone to go right on me. Went to a local demoday with an open mind to test pretty much all available options.
Tested Callaway, Titleist (U series wasn't available at this time), Ping & Cobra and while both the Callaway Forged UT and Apex Hybrid felt great the standard shaft options didn't fit me at all and the demo guy from Callaway wasn't really interested in helping out. At Ping I tried the G410 hybrid, G410 Crossover and i500 3-iron, the hybrid was a great upgrade from my current one but went too far and still too high which would made me suffer in windy conditions. The i500 and G410 Crossover produced same result on good hits but on the less good swings the i500 fell short. Played around with shafts and found that a stout graphite was the best. Tried steel as well but that made the club feel dead and I lost head awareness. Had been eyeing the Taylormade UDI as well but realized it would most likely create an unwanted gap in the bag so in all I'm really happy with my G410 Crossover and have stepped up my tee game with it.
Bottom line, try figure out what your requirements are and then start testing various options based on that.
