Can you really feel the different S20c and a S25c forged

No - not if it's the same head design with the same nickel chrome plating.

I couldn't resist the Epon 301's due to trying out a set of Ni-Chrome plated heads - and ordered them in the black finish. These 'felt' harder... and after refinishing to the copper chrome felt great again (refinished due to the rust/corrosion issues with the black finish). I suspect feel comes down to head design and the sound at impact - you'll hear of people raving about the feel of older clubs with a copper underlay below the Ni-chrome (not used now due to better plating making the copper unnecessary so I understand...).

I've wondered what a set of Mizuno Mp-32's cast (!) in beryllium copper would feel like compared to the ni-chrome plated steel forging (or come to that Epon 301/302 head design cast in be-cu).

I can tell the difference between Kyoei forgings (typically S25C) and Endo (typically S20C), but I agree there are many factors including head design and shaft selection primarily.

Different forging houses have different subtleties in feel, but I am not sure it is much steel related as process of forging.

In my opinion, kyoei forges the softest clubs if soft is only merit measured (I prefer feel of miura) so of it is true they use s25 then that would just prove to me that it is process. Mizuno uses 25 as does miura and many. I will say that I have an endo forged romaro wedge that is s20 and it is the softest wedge I have ever owned.

I think in the end it just comes down to what appeals to your personal mind/sight/touch/hearing and we are all different.

If you listen to the metallurgists they will tell you that S20 is borderline too soft for forging heads in that with the lower carbon count the steel will deform more easily. In other words the lie and lofts will go out of spec too easily and quickly. Most manufacturers acknowledge this so forge their heads out of 1025. This gives the softest feel while still being serviceable.

Sometimes I think people confuse feel with what they like.

If you had two identical heads from the same manufacturer and one was 1020 and one was 1025, I don't think most golfers could feel a difference.

Now, I think there are plenty of people that can take a club, whether Miura, Epon, whatever, and they really like the way it looks, swings, interacts with the turf... just everything about the club. I don't think that they can feel the softness of the club, but I do think that you can fall in love with most everything about it. Is that feel? Maybe, in some context. But, I don't think that what you're feeling is the difference in the density or malleability of the steel.

Most tour pros are hitting something a little harder than 1025. If the softness of the feel of the steel was that important, you know darn well they'd be asking for it.

Its probably a sales pitch. Making adjustments is nice with any forged club. Trying to adjust lie and loft on Cast clubs almost requires a bulletproof vest and a hydraulic press.

Maybe some people just had to know what kind of steel their irons were made out of.

Agree! Saw a test where a teaching pro was blind-folded had head phones on with music and asked to strike a ball using a cast Titleist AP1 and a forged Titleist MB716. He believed he would easily be able to feel the difference. Striking both equally well he was not able to identify which was which! Well he did make an identification but he chose wrong on each of two tries of the exercise. Another teaching pro gave it a shot and he concluded that he did not know which was which and would only be guessing if he made an assertion one way or the other!
