TheGrint WHS integration, now with an official GHIN#

Recommended Posts

This is pretty amazing. TheGrint has been THE golf app for a long time in my eyes, in combination with the official GHIN app being doo-doo. Good stats, fun games, live leaderboards/tours for friend groups. But there was no denying that if you wanted a GHIN# for tournaments, you simply couldn't use it (or had to double up). Now you can. TheGrint provides you with an official GHIN# for the pro version, and an "estimated" unofficial handicap in the free version. All other features of the app appear to be unchanged.

I personally think this is gamechanging and was worthy of a new thread.

I have been a free member for a while, looks like 19.99/year for a handicap and then 39.99/year for PRO Membership.

What features do you like in the PRO that you do not get in the free? I like the GPS and the fact it tracks my GIRs, FIRs, and Putts. Other then that not sure what I am missing in the PRO.

The only "Pro" feature that I use, and that I really do like, are the more in-depth stats. In particular, I find the scoring averages per hole really informative. I learned that there were a couple holes at the course I usually play at that where my scoring was, comparatively speaking, worse than it should be. This helped me re-think my approach to these holes.

Worth it? Not sure. You could track this yourself if you really wanted. But it's interesting nonetheless.

I agree the legit GHIN is pretty darn cool and might be worth it. But disagree that its been the goto golf app, for me that has been golfshot. I started using Grint though because of the legit HCP it provides but if Golfshot added this same feature I'm done with Grint fast. Been checking the GPS and found its way off but that is pretty normal for the GPS apps in my experience.

The shot-by-shot will rely on the GPS accuracy of your cellphone, so it'll only be good as the device you have. Aside from that, pro is really just about stats and the automated scorecard transcribing service (send picture of your scorecard and they post it for you). If you had pro before WHS you are grandfathered in at 19.99/yr as long as you keep the subscription active so that's nice. I don't know if it would be worth 39.99 if you already have a GHIN, that's up to you.

I'm not quite sure what happens if you try to link an existing GHIN with a free account, but if it is usable in that manner I think you absolutely look into it. It is so much better than all other GHIN app alternatives.

I have to jump on board in listing TheGrint as the best android app that I found to use.

Entering the data hole-by-hole as I play takes less time than writing it down on a scorecard. They have simple buttons (all on one page) for keeping all the stats and adding score. More stats than the new GHIN app allows to track.

As was pointed out - the advanced stats is the main advantage in upgrading to the pro. Now that it is synced every night with GHIN you need to remember NOT to post the same round in BOTH systems. So if you are playing a club competition where the club admin is going to post rounds - make sure you don't upload the same round in TheGrint. The round will be synced back to TheGrint that night and will still show up in all your stats.

I have been using TheGrint for a few years and it has added new functionality quite often. Check out the features about setting up events, joining an event, keeping "game" scores for a group and the different "games" it supports is great. They don't have a very good FAQ or instructions on how to use these features but if you dig into them they are fantastic.

No I am not affiliated with TheGrint but really like their app. I do play in their regional tournaments on occasion. They are very much like the AnTour events (which I also played in the past). This is only their 2nd year and the number of events and participants are less but it looks promising for the future.

Yes and vice versa. So for example if you have a club event that is going to post your score for you directly to your GHIN, no need to post it on TheGrint yourself. It will sync.

And TheGrint has taken care of hole-by-hole ESC even before this update.

I'll hop onboard in saying the grint has been awesome for me. It did a great job calculating my handicap in accordance with the usga so im sure it'll work good with the WHS as well. I've been wanting a GHIN for a little while so this is great cause I assume my current USGA handicap will be applied to the WHS. I dont think that'd work if I got a GHIN through a club. I plan on upgrading whenever it warms up and I can get out again.

I have another ESC questions. I shot a horrendous score for me today. Worst score in 4 years. I am a 4 handicap and did have a triple. With ESC that should be a double. My overall score was a 90. When I look in GHIN app my score is posted as a 90. Shouldn't it show up as an 89? I know a stroke overall probably doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Just trying to get a better handle on ESC and how the Grint and GHIN talk.

I have been reading about the Grint and new world handicap and came across this thread. In your scenario if your blowup hole was one of the 4 you would have gotten a stroke on, you would enter the triple because your net score was a double. If it was any of the other 14, ESC should have capped it at double. Atleast that is how I am interpreting the change.

How does WHS work alongside GHIN? Never been a member at a course or had a GHIN, but I've used Grint for a few years to track my handicap and just paid for the handicap membership. But I only have a WHS number through the app - will that be enough as the new system goes forward or will I also need a GHIN if I want to play in tournaments or things like that?

Had a duplicate problem w a tournament I played in last weekend. Didn't fully think it through and tracked the round in GRINT which loaded my WHS score then had the tournament upload the score creating a duplicate. Is it possible to keep track in GRINT but not have it sync? Or do I just need to add stats after the tournament round is loaded and sync'd back to GRINT?

There is some confusion on the Grint issue cis-a-vis GHIN numbers.

It appears as though sc ores entered in the Grint DO go to GHIN on a timely basis to be considered for the PCC adjustments (if any) for the day.

What is NOT clear is whether or not the Grint assigned GHIN number can be accessed on GHIN (or vice versa ?).

There is quite a bit on this here

Give or take some fine print about The Grint's USGA handicapping not being available in certain geographic areas. Or something like that, I don't recall the exact details but it's on The Grint web page somewhere.

I had used Golfshot Pro for years and it always allowed me to post scores to GHIN via the app. But they don't do the adjustments correctly with the new WHS system so I've dropped them. Being able to get a legit handicap through Grint at that price would be a nice deal, may have to try that next season.

Nope, for the Grint to give you GHIN number/access you have to pay. $39.99 per year I believe.
