Im sorta in the same boat... haven't been here in a while, part from being busy and not playing , I really just didn't like the new format here.

But hey, after a month of lockdown I'm finally back on the course... everyday!

Warning Danger Danger Will Robinson ( ya'll remember that don't ya?) Never mess with a man with 99 Hogan blades in his bag and especially if he has a chattered battle worn Bulls Eye or 8802 in the bag.

I found this thread when researching a set of clubs I rescued from the tip (garbage dump). A Gene Sarazen Ogg-mented matched set in excellent condition numbered 1 to 9. Interestingly the club numbered 9 appears to be the putter as it has no loft, but it otherwise matches the rest, they all have the three brass toe inserts. They have steel shafts with a wood pattern paint finish with hardly a scratch on them. The would leather grips are a bit shiny but nice too.

They have both the Stag (St Andrews Golf of Glasgow) and Wilson (red and blue flags) logos on them, they worked in partnership. The clubs were made in Scotland. There are UK and US and Canada patent and registered design marks.

I haven’t done photos but if anyone is genuinely interested please reply and I’ll find out how to do it.

Here are a couple of links for info on Willie Ogg and his Ogg-mented clubs, they seem to have been a step-change advance in golf club design.

I play my hickory clubs more than 100 rounds per year. My set of Pre1900 clubs get played 5 or 6 times, several sets from the 1920’s can be played 3 or 4 times per week. I play my classic sets between 40-50 times, mostly from the 60’s and 70’s.

I don’t buy anything without the intention to play myself or introduce someone else to vintage golf. Clubs are meant to be played, not hung on walls.

Jiggered,

Thanks for the info on the Persimmon Golf Society; I will check that out. Lancashire is at least at the right end of England for me so maybe....

My Tom Stewart's are the Argyle model.

Sorry about the picture! They are wedged in the middle of my rack! I am a little behind in my cataloguing otherwise I would have better pictures and they would also be cleaner!

These are from the St Andrew's Golf Company era after the merging of the various historic names under that banner. As I said, not touched by the master himself! Any thoughts / information welcome?

The car anology is a bit eccentric but actually works chronologically too!

Have never seen a non-hickory stew before

Sounds like you have a good set!  I have a lot of hickories but really wanted to build a Stewart set. Took a long time to find them with his name only in the oval and dot punched faces... and without initials and such. My niblick is line face and I paid more than I wanted to for it, but probably only as much as buying a new Titleist wedge which I have no use for. I'll keep an eye out for a dot punched face niblick and then I'll probably work on a line face set for a spare.

Apex Pro 21 3 & 4

Apex 21 Mixed Combo Set 5-A

Jaws 5 54* C-grind
