Golf Pride MCC Plus 4: Did they reduce the amount of cord or possible fake?

The grips at the top of the photos are of a grip that is about a year old and came directly from Taylormade. The grip below is brand new and I picked it up at Dicks today (via curbside pickup). The top grip clearly has more cord so the question is did Golf Pride change the amount of grip from one year to the next or could the new grip from Dicks be a fake? The new grip seems otherwise normal, smells fine, and came in the normal plastic wrap. I bought 4 of these grips from Dicks today and all 4 of the new grips has less cord than the older models that are in my irons. Thoughts?

If you got it from dicks its not fake - or very unlikely someone bought real ones and returned fakes that got back into stock somehow .

Manufacturing processes can change and have variance, so maybe thats why.

Also it could be due to the old grips being worn down and having less rubber.

I am hoping that as the grips wear, more cord is exposed and that would be a good design if intentional.

 

I have no reason to suspect that either are fake, but they are different enough that it is odd.

They're real, just manufacturing variations. Highly doubt your old ones have worn down to expose more cord, especially at the top of the grip. The only place I've seen grips actually lose material is on the bottom hand at the thumb or index finger.

Grips wear on the top from your palm all the time. Take some light sandpaper to the new grip and wipe down with Windex if you want to try to expose more cord.

They get grime and stuff on them, but material doesn't wear away (in my experience)

Would not be surprised at all if they reduced the amount of cord used after establishing the grip into market so well.

I actually had the same thing happen to me, bought a the same grip ( and color) from Dicks and thought something was wrong with the amount of cord. Seemed liked alot less then I was used to.

Before you install them, twist the grip like you were wringing out a wet towel. It will make the cord in the grip pop and you'll feel it more. The cord also tends to come out more when stretched/installed.

Experienced the same with Tour Velvet Cords (BCT). Guessing GP is reducing cord across the board?

My vote is that the ones bought from Dicks are fake. Could be any number of ways for fake product made it on the shelves, but I would bet that someone bought fake from Ali/DH and returned to Dicks to get their money back if they bought real ones previously, or maybe they just swapped out for real ones of a different color.

 

Years ago I bought some +4s on eBay that ended up being fake and they looked exactly like these... noticeably less cord, Golf Pride logo text more bold/thicker, rubber dimples in the v-pattern smaller & more rough/bumpy, more taper from butt to tip, etc.
