SIM Driver - Legit Check - 2 of the same heads

Recommended Posts

I have 2 SIM Driver heads, both 9.0 degree. One was bought on here and one was bought from HurricaneGolf on Amazon. In the pictures they show numbers 1 or 2, in the pictures that include both, Driver 1 is on the left and Driver 2 is on the right.

Any help or insights are appreciated!

Below are the differences that I noticed in person.

Weight: Driver 1 = 195 grams; Driver 2=204 grams (shaft that came with this driver was 44.75")

·        Crown:

o  “Chalk” painted portion

§ Driver 1 is thinner than Driver 2.

§ The two “chalk” colors are slightly different, Driver 1 is just a bit brighter

o  SIM logo near the hosel

§ Driver 1 has thinner logo (the logo is a white outline of the word “SIM”

§ Diver 1 cuts off more of the bottom portion of the S in SIM where it meets the chalked painted portion

§ The paint line to the right of the hosel where chalk and black paint meet are noticeably different

·        Face:

o  “TWIST FACE” lettering

§ Is clearer and crisper on Driver 2

o  Screws

§ Driver 1 screws are a darker shade of blue

§ Diver 2 the star areas look to be minorly stripped as it would when someone slips a little tightening a screw with a hand screwdriver.

§ Driver 2 screws sit are positioned a little lower than Driver 1 (in relation to the score marks on the face, I can’t actually tell from the ground to the screws)

o  Paint line near the hosel

§ Paint line transition down under the hosel starts closer to the serial number on Driver 2

§ Paint lines in general are more angular on Driver 1 and more rounded on Driver 2

o  Driver 2 appears to be taller (has a deeper face)

·        Bottom

o  Chalk strip running around the back of the club above the rear weight

§ Driver 1 has a thinner stripe all the way around

o  Light Blue on the sole

§ Driver 2 has a noticeably brighter blue color for the decal on the toe

·        Driver 2’s decals match toe and heel for colors, but Driver 1 heel decal looks to be the same color as those on Driver 2, only the toe decal on Driver 1 seems to be off

o  Draw and Fade lettering

§ Driver 2 lettering has more contrast to the black sole

§ Driver 1 looks very light

o  Rear Weight

§ Better fit on Driver 1 than driver 2

o  Screw port

§ Driver 1 has a minorly beveled area on the edge of the screw port above the loft number.

·        Hosel

o  Driver 1 has a thinner un-painted portion after the chalk paint stops

o  Serial Numbers

§ Driver 1 has a smaller and more condensed font arrow is more elongated and the etchings is not as crisp as on Driver 2

I pointed out differences on this thread which both of yours seem to have. one end of the hosel is 1/8th of an inch and the other is 1/16th. https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/1826973/fake-sims-looks-really-close-some-minor-differences#latest

any photos of the serial numbers? others mentioned it could be real, just made elsewhere. this is closer than the fake tour SC rats.

Thanks!

i noticed on both (in this thread and the one you linked) heads that have a serial number starting with 0 have the same unpainted length on the hosel. Wondering if that could be due to the location or factory it came from?

Looking at the 6th picture down, the heads look to have a different shape. Driver #2 looks longer front to back and has a “flatter” look vs. #1 that looks shorter front to back and taller. Curvature of the crown looks different as well. Not sure if it’s the difference in the paint that’s playing tricks on my eyes?

So which of these heads is a guaranteed authentic head, or are both in question? Gonna go take a look at mine and compare to the pics above.

I hit them both on a launch the numbers difference were negligible.

Hard to know what is going on. But the authenticity Driver 1 cannot be confirmed as the retailer is not an authorized dealer. That club is being returned.

Driver 2 came straight from the Taylormade custom department.

  • 1 month later...

I've just started a post about possibly having a fake head as well that was purchased on Facebook Marketplace. The differences in my head and a brand new head I just purchased to compare them are the exact same differences that have been noted in this thread.

I noticed upon receiving mine that the "fit and finish" weren't typical of TM quality. the large gap between the carbon and chalk painted area filled with black paint and a weird bevel to the edge of the face as it transitions to the sides and bottom were the most notable differences. Also have the serial numbers that aren't same size and font, the text decals aren't the same color/sheen, a lot of small pinholes in the sole that look like poor quality metal finishing, bad/ not sharp paint lines, shorter painted area at hosel, etc.

I talked to Taylormade customer service this morning. If the serial number starts with 9, it was made in 2019, if it starts with 0, it was made in 2020. I also have one that starts with 0 and I took it to a pro shop to compare. Everything on their shelf started with a 9, but about half of their demo heads started with 0 and had the same small differences you’ve pointed out here. I’m not sure if there is any difference in performance, could be mental for me, but I think I hit the 2019 version better.
