Going on a 20 guy golf trip to Oglebay in mid April... I did a search of the forums and there is not much about the place (at least for several years) ... I have checked out the website (not much there) and talked to a few guys who have gone. I am psyched to go, but just wanted to get some input from anyone from here who has been.

Is it tough? Worth $300 for 2 nights and 5 rounds (and breakfasts)? Any input, or pictures would be great!!

I just want to talk about going... this will be my first golf trip with the guys!!

I have always known Oglebay as being a very good place to play and remember it before there was lodging there , they used to have a daily special for 36 holes for a low price , there are two courses , a Robert Trent Jones course and a Arnold Palmer design , the Trent Jones course is hilly in places and always in good condition , a long time ago there used to a a LPGA event held there but again it's been a while ,ive played the Jones course a bunch and remember most of the holes unless they made changes , the Palmer design i dont remember well ,only played there once and remember it to be wide open other than that do not remember much , the resort side of it is newer also , i do not remember the lodging there even the last time i was there , but if i figure they started it to compete with Lakeview resort in Morgantown ,they also have 2 courses and a hotel that offer 2 day packages with breakfast /dinner and unlimited golf , i have recently heard about Oglebay and was told the lodging packages with golf were very good and the prices were competitive ,and was told the lodging was very nice , i could tell you about the course but since it sound like you have never been there you can find out for yourself , hope youhave a good time

My buddy took me to olgebay this fall for being the best man in his wedding. It was a lot of fun. We drove from Columbus so on the way the stopped and played Longaberer.

The Jones and Palmer courses are pretty nice. I wasn't blown away by either of them but they were in pretty good shape and were fun tracks to play. The courses were definetly a change of pace from what I play in Columbus. Lots of hills... Gotta be a billy goat to walk that place. That being said there are a couple of not great courses there. The Osprey I believe it's called is a total goat pasture.

We didn't stay at the resort as an attempt to save a little cash. We stayed at a Marriott in wheeling. I actually liked where we stayed because we went the casino a couple nights which is always fun.

$300 sounds like it will be Worth it

Like most hilly courses, if you're spraying the ball either course can play tough. Although with April showers in mind, it could be hit or miss, but the courses are usually in pretty good shape.

$300 for just 5 rounds of golf golf would be a decent deal, throw in two hotel nights and some breakfast buffets, and I think that's a heck of a deal!

First golf trip? Welcome to the club! It for sure won't be the last! Since it's a "boys" trip, make sure you designate a driver, and head over to Wheeling Island casino. It's about 15 minutes away.

One of the latest photos from Ogelbay...... They do one heck of a Christmas display!

Re-upping this thread because a small group of us are considering a spring trip to Ogelbay. I played there twice in 2015 and 2016 and really enjoyed it, but I heard they had some watering issues after that and the Jones course especially took a beating.

From what I have read, they reseeded to bentgrass on that course. Has anyone been there in the past year and could let me know if the conditions are any better?

We are looking to go for 3 days, 2 nights the week after Easter. They are charging $342(with tax) per guy for lodging, breakfast, range use and 4 rounds on Palmer and Jones courses. Seems like a pretty good deal as long as the conditions are decent. We don't want to go if fairways and greens are still burnt out and patchy. If that's the case, we would look a little farther south, Virginia or North Carolina. We are coming from the Cleveland area though, and Wheeling is a quick drive meaning we won't waste an entire day traveling before or after golfing.

Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks
