tip trim Tour AD HY shaft

I am between Stiff and X stiff, but have been going stiff and swinging easier. My driver swingspeed is around 105-110, but I swing shorter clubs slower. I had gone for a Tour AD DI Hybrid 105 X and it was too low spinning and dropped out of the sky missing right. Too much shaft for me. I've now gone the opposite direction to the Tour AD HY 85 Stiff. I think 85 is perfect as that was the weight of the last hybrid shaft that I liked, however, I am wondering about tip trimming.

Tour AD says for hybrids 15-18 degree you should not tip trim and then 19-22 tip trim 1/2". Since I am between flexes and playing an 18 degree hybrid I think that puts me between the two ranges? I am thinking of getting it 1/4" tip trimmed and taking the rest off the butt.

Any thoughts from club builders/fitters?

since you are going down in flex and weight, it might be good to leave some potential tip trim in your backpocket.

you could start out untipped, or tip 1/4" and leave 1/2" more than final playing length in the butt.

This would allow you some room to go back and tip.

Are you playing standard length in the hybrid or playing it shorter?

If playing shorter, will you add weight to the head?

I am playing it standard 40.5" and not planning on adding weight. Stock shaft in it was 85g and 40.5" overall. Just more concerned with bend profile and kick.

i have an ad-hy95 stiff but haven’t gained it enough to comment

i know he reviewed these shafts, but I don’t recall info about tipping

The old shaft that I played and mostly liked was the Aldila Tour Green 85 S Hybrid. Aldila says to not tip it for any loft so I have to assume that it was not tipped, however, this was a lower launching stiffer tip shaft than the Tour AD HY. Also from Aldila's website, my driver swingspeed is perfectly between stiff and X just as expected.

Going to the Tour AD HY 85 S in which GD calls out 0 tip up to 19 degree hybrid then 1/2" tip then 1" tip over 23d I think that 1/4" tip will be best in my 18 degree head. I want higher launch/spin than than the Tour AD DI Hybrid to get more carry and I found out the hard way that 105g and X stiff was too much. Playing the tour ad HY 85 S at 40.5" with 1/4" tipped should make it play a touch stiffer with a slightly lower flight that is still higher and more spin than the DI Hybrid shaft.

I will report back once I have the club built and tested.
