Waxed canvas looks best to me. I don’t like leather look honestly. I’d go for two pockets. I don’t think you’d regret both pockets ever but you are more than likely to regret not having a second pocket at some point. For range finder I’d just clip on the d ring.

Thats kinda how I'm leaning as well. I don't normally use the case for my laser. I'd actually have to find it, lol. On my Sun Mountain leather Sunday, there's a pocket at the top that works perfect for just that.

Is the Sun Mountain Sunday leather heavy to carry? Do you carry a full set with it? Very nice looking bag in black...

Do you find you have enough storage with the SM Sunday leather bag? It doesn’t have a back or full length pocket does it?

I've carried a full set in my SM leather Sunday with no problems at all. It has a 4 way top, which makes it a little easier. The weight is no heavier than a Mac or any other leather Sunday size. Easy carry and nice balance.

If you are going minimalist anyway, I kind of prefer 1 pocket. You can fit a jacket in there in a pinch if needed. Its not like you are throwing tons of balls, tees, gloves, etc in that pocket in the first place. For a mini set...I would go waxed canvas or ballistic -- 7 inch opening and 1 pocket. Maybe get an extra D ring where ever you prefer to clip the rangefinder.

I live in the NE, play in extreme cold and wet when i have to... I have mentioned in the comments before, that I haven't used the 2nd pocket for much, but glad to have it for 2 reasons:

Generally keeping extra items (rain hood, winter hat, sweater) separate from things that could be wet and dirty: balls, tees, water bottleOn a bad weather day everything COULD fit in 1 pocket, but would be tight...so nice to have as an optionSo it's very just in case.

I don't use a rangefinder, but have seen people add a small D ring near the handle to clip things like that on to. I think I would be more comfortable with that than a sleeve near the bottom.

How do you guys think the Mackenzie bag will do on a push cart? I'd like to put it on a push cart if it works even though it's meant to be a walking bag. Just love the looks of it!

I have a Mac Sunday walker and it really doesn't do too well on my Sun Mountain push cart. it fits just fine but collapses down on the clubs. The grips tend to bind to each other and make it hard to pull clubs out or return them to the bag. In the hot summer months when I use the push cart, I have another larger bag with full length dividers which I use. The Mac works best when I walk - which I prefer to do whenever possible.

Thanks for the feedback! Really love the way the bag looks but might not be too practical if I prefer pushing. Tough to find a bag that looks as good as a Mackenzie and will still do well on a push cart...

Some of you guys are losing sight of what a Sunday bag is. It is not ideal for storage of extra layers. It is for your clubs, some balls, and tees.

If you need to pack layers, food, or any other extras bring along your other bag.

Good point. For me and at the prices some of these Sunday bags go for I find myself wanting it to be minimalist when I walk (9 club set) and provide reasonable support when I push or ride. If money were no object I’d go for a both....

I hear you, a Mac bag is high end and not a reasonable value for most. I would love a waxed Mac but can’t justify the cost. However I like the Sunday bag concept and went with Jones.

 

I put it in the perspective of my stand bag is a daily driver and my Sunday bag is my motorcycle.

That’s a great analogy. For the price of a Mackenzie, I can get a Jones Players and a Sun Mountain 2.5 or 3.5 14 way. But those Mackenzies do look awesome. Do you use trestle sticks with your Jones or Sunday bag?

yes, I do most of the time now. Initially I just used a club to lift up the strap and then picked it up. With just a few clubs it is light enough that picking up after each shot is not really a challenge.

As I mentioned above, I compete in professional events, and we can’t decide to just not play. So I need to be at least minimally prepared for inclement weather. If it’s a zero cloud day, I’ve got 3 balls, 6 tees, a water bottle and my 9 clubs. That’s it. But having the extra pocket for the rain jacket when there’s a chance of rain, makes a difference for me.

That's why I get Bionic STABLEGRIP gloves in white-only. A little rain and the colors bleed off.

Then get an ultralight stand bag. Nobody needs a Mac. Macs are not the lightest bags out there. There are SM bags that are lighter and have more pockets for your needs.

At the end of the day a Mac or Jones or any other retro Sunday bag has become a trendy accessory than function.

Fully loaded difference of my Flextech and my Jones is less than 2lbs. If I am expecting a tough walking course I grab my Flextech simply because it has legs and can hold a bottle of water in an insulated pocket and a couple of snacks.

If you rely on storage a Mac or any other Sunday bag is like using a butter knife to cut through a ribeye.

Does anyone know if the structure of the Mac, elliott, links and Kings are different? Or are all of these type of bags similar in structure? Still looking for a bag of this style with an 8 inch opening to stick on a push cart

How is everyone cleaning their waxed canvas bags? I've played in some sloppy conditions and have some caked on mud on the side of the bag that touched the ground.

I emailed Nic at Mackenzie after I got my waxed canvas about this. He said water and a rag...that's about it. He was not in favor of chemical cleaners or soap on waxed canvas. For the leather parts, there are a number of leather cleaners/conditioners that work well. I think Mackenzie sells a couple.

I’m looking for that as well. Not sure it exists though and may be buying a Jones Player’s and SM 2.5/3.5 for the times I push or ride. Both those bags combined will be less than a Mackenzie or Eliott or .....
