TaylorMade Tour Response

Recommended Posts

I’ve played the TP5x for the last few years and I was able to try the Tour Response before we got locked down here in Michigan. Based on that and the TXG review I bought a dozen to try out if and when our a...... governor allows us to play golf!!

You really cannot compare OEM provided values cross company as there is no industry standard for measuring compression. Only way to really compare apples to apples across multiple companies is for a 3rd party to measure samples from each company using a consistent method/environment (best we have at this point is MyGolf$py as golfballselector/golfballtest has not released an update since 2016).

I believe txg did a comparison between the tr/tp and came away impressed. Always liked the project a but these are great.

I bought a dozen in yellow and used them in my last round. They are easy to compress and spin like the TP5 I had been using. These are certainly a winner and look forward to using them this season.

For me they were a bit more accurate but definitely a few yards longer off each club.

Found one of these on course the other day and played it for a few holes.

Nice ball, feels great. Soft, but not too soft. Seems to be long off all clubs, but not crazy like a Cally Supersoft. Hard to tell greenside performance as I hit all three greens the holes I played it on.

They seem similar to the Bstone BRSX

If I wasn’t stocked up with balls already, I’d pick up a dozen to start with.

Had a chance to play the Tour Response the other day - finally - and was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with the performance. Was able to run out for a few practice holes before the "real" round and was comparing the TR with the TP5 as well as the project (a). I found the project (a) to be about 1/2 club shorter off the irons, but all were comparable everywhere else. The TR is definitely a bit softer than the TP5 and feels fantastic, plus it goes and stops real well.

Ended up playing my actual round with the TR and it was one of my better ones this year (mid 70's). Ended up playing the same ball for all 18 and could tell the finish was dulling a bit after that, which was not a big surprise (used it for several of the practice holes as well). Otherwise, it's a great ball for sure. I'll get over to a local Dick's that has a bunch of the 15-packs on the shelves, and with some rewards points and $10-off coupons, they'll be priced nicely. Still have a bunch of last-year's TP5 Pix in my stash, but will use them a bit sparingly since the supply is drying up. For anyone curious about the TR, give it a shot - you'll probably dig it.

Tour Response and Project (a) played very similarly in my opinion and served me well. It is a very good ball that is just a step off of "premium". The only place it lacked was around the greens when you needed that hard check and hold. I was playing Tour Response fairly exclusively, until YESTERDAY. I cleared out the bag and loaded up with the Vice Pro. I bought their "variety pack" with two-ball sleeves of all five models they make. I went with the Pro and got ProV1 feel for less than Tour Response money. Amazon $35/dz - Vice $25/dz (if you buy five)

I think $35 per 15 for a major brand ball that’s been shown to perform on par with some of the best balls in the world (TP5 line) that you can walk into about any brick and mortar sporting goods or golf shop store and buy is pretty darn good.

Yes you can get more for your money online and watching sales and stockpiling but it might be the best bang for the buck ball readily available through traditional channels
