Tips or warnings on a DIY refinish of a Wilson 8802 milled?

I'm bored and thinking about refinishing my 8802 milled. I was thinking I'd strip the finish in Coke, remove any paint, sand it many many times, polish it, and then torch it for an interesting finish. Any thoughts or concerns with doing this on the modern 8802 milled?

This is a Flanigan machined 8813 with a one of a kind BOS Golf satin oil can finish. I leave 8802 and 8813 restorations to experts. I do work on Anser's myself (see Anser F thread).

If the putter is plated, it needs to have plating removed before you can do anything with it.

You can't strip the finish and sand it off? I really don't know anything about plating so sorry if that's a dumb question.

Oh wow that's unreal. I wish I could pull that off DIY ha. I really thought an 8802 would be straightforward since it's such a small and simple shape.

Coke won't do a thing, needs to be chemically stripped. I send mine to customputterworks, always does a nice job. Then you can sand and do a finish.

Not a dumb question at all. You won’t be able to sand it off. If you want to restore it yourself you can send it to oughtonsgolf.com for unplating. Doug charges $17.

I recommend K&J Metal Finishing in Mentor, OH http://www.kjpolishing.com/. I won't post Ken's prices here because that's for him to say, but its very very very fair compared to any other I've seen, even in this thread. His stripping work is impeccable. Strips and does a light blast. Here's how one of my projects turned out. The Palmer is so good but I can't find the finished pic :(. One hour at 485* in the oven for the Palmer resulted in a dark golden brown. 520 for the Mizuno got more purple hues.

Thanks for mentioning this service. You never know when you will need someone who still does what most shops quit doing 15 years ago. I've got more than one persimmon head that might wind up in their hands for a spell.

For those looking for a plating stripper, the only advice I can give is to use someone who is golf-centered. They know what our goal is as club junkies and know how to take care and not damage club heads. I've learned that the hard way and it still stings.
