PING G410 irons or PXG 0211 irons

I’ve been a Ping guy for over 20 years. However I’m still playing G25 irons because I don’t like the feel and low spin all of Ping’s new irons have. But I was interested in PXG 0211 irons so I went for a fitting and was blown away by the feel, forgiveness, and consistent spin and carry numbers. I ordered a set on site. The only two drawbacks of the 0211’s is the delivery time is about 4-6 weeks, and the stock grip they use is really bad.

I played G400s for a year and a half and loved them. Eventually went back to player's type irons because I didn't love the offset of the Pings. I'm a 5 handicap and my misses are left so I've never liked a lot of offset. Other than that and being ugly in the bag the G400s were great. I still have them in fact.

I got the PXG 0211s this week on the $95 per iron deal they'd been running. Never had any interest in their products until I saw this deal. Played my first round with them today and I'm extremely impressed with them. Best feeling cast iron I've ever played. Sound and feel better than my MP20 HMBs and way more forgiving. I love the size and lower offset. I think they are about as forgiving as the G400s while looking like a slightly larger Ping i210. If you like Pings you will love these. They look like a Ping iron at address.

For the money, I'd get the 0211s over any Ping iron out there. You can always get a Ping iron for a reasonable price but the deal on the 0211s is just insanely good. Rumor is they are discontinuing them too so you may never be able to get a PXG iron for this price again. Don't get me wrong, the Ping G series irons are great. But the 0211s are better and cheaper. Plus you can always return the PXGs if you don't like them. No brainer.

0211's are smaller and less forgiving. No doubt they look and sound better but I don't care, I'll take the forgiveness over beauty all day long.

Would have agreed with you Ness but I have played G irons back to G5 and through G700 and several i series in between (when I thought I was too good for shovels) but always seemed to end up back with my G25’s.

Play 0211 now and they have the look of the iE1 and the forgiveness of the G25 with much better feel. I only play 5-GW so that may make a difference.

I never thought I would play anything other than Ping long term as I always had short flings with other irons like the P790 but always ended up with a set of Pings in my bag.

0211 have been that good for me as I reshafted mine with Nippon NS Pro 1050GH and set them off 37.75” 5 iron like my old set of G25’s and they have been fantastic.

I was a PXG hater at one time as I thought they just produced over priced equipment. I still would not pay the premium for the Gen 3 irons but with the price drop of the 0211 I gave them a go with a used set I found from 2nd Swing and have been more impressed with them than any set of irons I have played in years.

Sold my G700’s that had beat out a set of i210’s and the 0211 are now my only set of irons.

I have been tempted by the G710’s but that is fading with each round I play with the 0211.

0211’s have been so good I even ordered the 0211 SW & LW to see if they can beat my Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 54 & 58 but waiting on them to arrive still.

No iron will ever have the "im good but can still play these" panache of the Ping G series.

They are easy to hit and cool no matter what your handicap

Thanks for all the feedback!

Especially from those that have played G type irons in the past. I currently game a set of Ping G irons with their CFS graphite shafts (my first graphite) and once I got use to the graphite have really enjoyed them. I hit them well and have no issue with how they look. BTW, I really have never played with anyone that has really been that interested in what irons you play, only on how well you hit them. I have hit the Ping 410's in the past and know that it would be an easy transition into them. Unfortunately, with the current situation I can't try the PXG's, but since they seem to be cousins of Ping irons I think there would not be any issues.

Any more feedback would be appreciated. I'll probably pull the trigger pretty soon. Thanks

I have played Steelfiber shafts in my G25 irons since they were first introduced. I’ll never go back to steel. Besides all of the other great things I’ve mentioned about the 0211’s, PXG has a great selection of graphite shaft options for their irons. I tried four different brand shafts, Mitsubishi MMT, Accra Tour i, KBS, and Steelfiber. In the end Steelfiber are just better for me in every way. Just for fun I hit a set with the Elevate steel shaft, and the Steelfiber actually had better dispersion and less distance deviation. My recommendation is contact customer service and ask where the closest fitter is. Do not be afraid of graphite shafts in your irons. Your hands, wrists, and shoulders will thank you.

If you’re playing for score, my advice is don’t fall in love with a discount, look at all your options. 0211 to me tries to compete with i210, not the G series, which are more forgiving. I did buy a 0211 6 iron and it looked pretty but was an immediate no. Not a fan of the elongated head shape. About as nimble as a winnebago. Feel was OK, nothing memorable. Sold it. Certainly respect the opinions of wrxers who love it. I thought it was decidedly OK. I hit it side by side versus an M5 iron and a Bridgestone Tour B X-CBP and it finished third. 0211 vs. Ping i210 is not even close IMO.

If I wanted a bit more forgiveness, instead of the 0211, I’d take the Mizuno Hot Metals, Bridgestone JGR HF2, TaylorMade M5, Ben Hogan Edge, Wilson D7 Forged or Titleist T200/300. Several of those competitors are also at $100 per head now.

I've had the Ping G irons for over(?) 4 years. I'm lucky enough to be able to play 6 months in the south and 6 months in the north, so I tend to put a lot of mileage on the clubs. The Pings seem to be indestructible, only needing to regrip them once a year. I've demo'd most of the comparable irons and have liked several, but not fallen in love with them. I am realistic and don't expect that my iron play will all of a sudden shave strokes off my game with new sticks.

I'm like most of you and like new toys, so I just placed an order for a new set of PXG 0211's. I know that there are delays, but I'm in no rush. If I hate them, I'll send them back within 30 days.

Thanks again for ALL the feedback.
