Did you do a driver fitting or did you just bought the driver you wanted?

Just wondering if anyone just bought the driver you liked or went thru the fitting process? If you skip the fitting, did you have to switch shafts down the road?

Fitted, always fitted. Even if you feel the need to change at some point at least you have a baseline to work from.

For a driver especially, get fitted. This is the club that you want to keep you out of the treeline. If your baseline shifts, the fitting helps you measure the change.

If you're buying it new, the fitting should be included in the price of the club.

In 2008 and 2016, I got fitted and the drivers worked out well. In 2012 I self-fitted, and the driver never quite worked out - control problems off and on, left and right.

Get fit ONCE by a reliable fitter. Take that information and educate yourself on what it all means. THEN, when you get ready to get a new driver, you will know what you need and can choose for yourself.

I did both, because the ONLY driver I want is one that has been carefully and professionally fit to me! I cannot imagine doing it any other way in this day and age of interchangeable shafts, adjustable hosels, and Trackman.

I tried a lot of drivers but ended up with what the numbers would say was the second best for me. The Mavrik had slightly better numbers for me than the Epic Flash. But the difference was so small that I opted to buy a "like new" Epic Flash from CPO for $270 less than a new Mavrik.

I got fitted for my last driver, and was relatively happy. However, within the year I ended up swapping out the fitted shaft for the shaft I was using (also fitted) in my old driver. That shaft was not available at the fitter (older model). Aldila RIP Alpha. Oldy but goodie.

Both. I wanted a TS and I walked out with one. I kind of figured TS4 was going to be the best for me, but TS3 was better. With the number of options for adjustability and shafts in a driver line, I think it'd have to be a pretty extreme case that a fitter couldn't get you dialled in with just about any line.

if i'm willing to pay full price for it, i will always get fit.

However if i see a good deal on something that will LIKELY fit me, i will buy it without trying

If you decide to go with a pro fitting, my only suggestion would be to make sure that it's done outside. I know that launch monitors provide lots of useful data, but it's still reassuring to see the actual ball flight.

I fit myself. Dont need to pay anyone $100 an hour to get optimal numbers. I'de rather own 4x $100 shafts and do my own testing with my desired head.

I only have indoor fitting options and I cannot hit a driver indoors. It can't be done. So I just experiment with past generation drivers until I find one that works for me.

Neither. I bought the driver I didn't want, (R15) but at the price I could afford, with a matrix 6q3 red tie in x flex and forced the combo to work for me.

A year later I did the same thing with a Wilson D-300, but this one I needed to put a new shaft in. I know the prolaunch series works reasonably well for me, so I put that in.

It is certainly possible to lob darts at the wall and have one stick.

I've always fit myself - I had played a counterbalanced shaft before and knew it worked pretty well, so I wasn't hesitant whatsoever when I was asked to review the X-Torsion Copper three years ago. It made a decent driver (915D2) really good, and has made a good driver (917D2) excellent. I made the switch from 915 to 917 because it already had a Titleist tip, and at a Titleist Thursday with a crosswind, it held its line better than my driver with the exact same swing (was having a perfect swing day that day).

I've always fit myself really well with shafts especially because of how detailed I've followed the flight of my shots through the years. My irons tend to spin a little but that isn't always the worst thing.

I hit different driver lofts and shafts at my clubs demo day. It's outside so I see the ball flight plus they have a Trackman to see the numbers. Plus since the Rep is there they have most all the combinations of fairways and hybrids too. When I find what I like I get it. Buying something off the rack and untested is a gamble.
