I can't tell you what it is about the Wilson staff's but they have become my favorite iron that I've ever played. You just don't want to stop hitting them.

Very partial to W/S myself. My current FG59’s are the best blade I have ever played but they are looking a bit worse for wear. Would love to grab another set but good to have something new.

I really like my MP20 blades. I added HMB to the long irons, but I hit the blades up to the 4i still extremely solid.

Up until my MP20s were stolen last night, my vote would be for them over any other new blade. I still own a set of Apex MB and my T.I. X-Prototypes are still the best I've ever hit. Being a lefty might narrow my view based on what little we have to select from. I've had MP20 since November and did two fittings of all the manufacturers to make sure. My consistency and confidence has been at a peak with my current bag. Now the rebuild begins!

The Wilson's look sweet....but 8620 cast? Sorry, gotta go forged. You can tell me all day there is no difference.....not buying it. MP20s get my vote.

I'd like to agree but then we'd both be wrong. Forging is a process not a steel. Mp20's are very nice but the Wilson's have a more solid feel . Not enough difference between the two to argue about.

From a metal standpoint, the characteristics of the materials, specifically the hardness, are very similar. 8620 is a form of carbon that is used when casting carbon steel because it flows better into the cast tool. In form forging, the first step is to cast the head, then after casting, it goes through one forged press process. That is what form forging is. 1035, 1025 etc. are more usually used to describe the carbon steel used in a billet forging. Billet forging is simply where a billet of material is hammered into it’s final shape by going through a series of heating and forging steps.

The Wilson Staff Model blades are forged. 8620 carbon steel can be both forged and cast. The forged Vokey wedges were also made from 8620. In some applications 8620 is used in form forging, initial casting to basic shape then forging a couple of times thereafter.

No but seriously, tons of amazing options out there. MP20, Cobra MBs (Easily the best looking), Wilson Staffs, Z-Forged, the 620s. These are all good.

*Notice how I didn't mention blueprint. Solid design but there is work to do in the feel dept.

I have no issues with them at all but I don't play anything lower than a 6 iron. I've never bought in to the whole forgiveness thing except when you get to the longer irons. I'm 67 and play courses between 5600 and 6400 yards most of the time. My game from 100 yards and in is better with the Wilsons than the Ping G410's I played last year. After 7 1/2 months of not playing I shot a 40 both 9's I've played. I love them!

I tested them out. They weren’t bad by any means, but I prefer a softer feel. To me, the Apex MB’s are noticeably softer.

That's why they make so many different kinds of golf equipment. I totally understand why people like soft feeling irons like Mizuno and others but there's just something I prefer about the firmer and solid feel of the Wilson's. Miura's are kind of that way also. I could have easily bought the MP20's or the Apex MB's and been totally happy but in my eye's the Wilson's just did it for me . So Clean!

The Staff Model is also validated with a US Open win which is huge in my books.

I think the Staff and Ping use the same 8000 series steel to give it that dense feel whereas Callaway and Mizuno use 1020 for the “soft feel

Regardless, it’s a matter of preferences especially when you pair it up with the right ball.

I know this is a blade chat but question....currently have MP4s and not playing much lately but getting back into it. I have always had blades for 20 past years and really enjoy playability but thinking cavities may be more forgiving

I’m considering MP20s or 919 Tours. Has anyone changed from blades to cavities and regretted it? Or has anyone made this transition and enjoyed it?

My vote would be to check out some of the following

 

Ping blueprint - most technology in a true MB, absolutely killed it on the looks, typical ping feel and great turf interaction

Callaway apex mb - look for the raw version, wonderful feel and solid amount of bounce for a blade offering.

P7TW - should frame the ball similar to your nike's and will have a similar turf/grind interaction of your current set.

 

Dark horse that I would mention would be the P730, with an upgrade waiting shortly you would be able to have these for cheap.

There’s not going to be huge performance differences, it’s like others have said, it’s based on what you like the look of and design of. Plus, what you think is butter soft, I might not perceive the same way. For example, I don’t find the apex mb to be the softest thing I’ve ever hit. But I know others do. So I don’t think we can be of that much help, you probably already know most of the models out there

I’ve switched to i210 (3-PW) coming from 2018 Apex MB (2-PW) but I still jump back and forth.

To me, it’s comparing apples to oranges.

Looks and feel goes to the blades.

Sometimes I just want the utmost feel that the blades can only satisfy.

I'm thinking about purchasing the W/S Staff Model Blades myself. I'm around an 8 HCP, hit my 8 iron 155 (7 iron goes around 165) with my current Wilson V6 irons(True Temper Dynamic Gold AMT R300 Steel shafts). I've never been properly fitted before, but any recommendations on the shafts to match the W/S blades? I tend to hit my irons higher so would like a little bit more of a lower-mid, piercing ball flight. I was thinking KBS Tour-V Stiff flex at 110g, but would love to hear feedback on shaft recommendations!
