Callaway 2016 Apex Hybrid vs 2019 Apex

Hey just wondering for those that have played both is there a substantial difference with in regards to performance, especially with it being anti-left which is what I need!! Would love to hear as the 2016 is much cheaper on EBay lol

I'm interested in this topic as well. Just got the '19 version of Cally Preowned. Tested it for the first time today. I like it no doubt. But the shape is just.....meh. I like the smaller profile of the '16 but never had a chance to test it.

I haven’t hit the 2019, but had the 2016 version. It was very close to the Adams Pro.

19 head is larger and little more "tink" sounding which is fine to me...sounds hot

it definitely goes higher in launch for me compared to the older 16

the 16 is classic head shape (like someone said, think: modern Adams Idea Pro)

the 16 should launch lower with lower spin? but found both to be pretty anti-left

love the 19 and will probably stick with one after moving to Mav Pro (which looks like a small fairway wood)

I have a '16 and love it. Best combination of length off the tee and ability to hit it out of the rough I've found. Not a fan of the bigger head on the '19.

So I actually got the ‘19 model I swore it said ‘16 but whatever the club is an absolute beast that I CANNOT turn over which just warms my heart as all 5 hybrids I’ve ever played they all had big draw bias. Thank you Callaway for a hybrid that is NEUTRAL and isn’t built to draw the ball! ??

Have 2 Apex 16 models at 20 degrees. Smaller profile than the 19. Sits more neutral to my eye, and definitely found it to be more anti left. The 19 apex seems more like the rogue/epic to me.

I've been playing the Apex 19 *23 for just over a month and its everything I've been searching for in a hybrid-#1- doesn't go LEFT! Its long and launches high, landing soft. I also have an older X2 Hot Pro *20 that is anti-left. It launches much lower for me and I like to use it on long par 5's.

The only negative with the 19 is the wider sole doesn’t rip thru the rough as well

19 head is much larger as the picture shows. 19 Turf interaction is not good on 20 degree, on 18 degree it’s a little better. Different feel with the jailbreak 19 head, larger variation in spin numbers with jailbreak. That 16 apex hybrid was so good, wish they did a release of that head again.

I played both, 19 is bigger, more forgiving, easier to hit and launch higher.

If you are a good ball striker with hybrid and like a more iron look, the original is better.

+1. The 2016 is one of the best ever. Great head. The newer one was too bulky for me.

'16 Apex Hybrid has to be one of the best hybrids of all time. Hybrids are like 3 woods, hard to find one that is a perfect fit. These are money. Fingers crossed for the next Titleist release because adjustable would be nice if the shape was right. At the same time, I should really get a backup......

16’s for me. Have a 2 thru 5 but currently only using the 3 and 4. Love them and always trying to fit the 2 in if I can.

I just got rid of the stock shaft in a ‘16 20°. Replaced it with a GD Tour AD DI 85s, a 1/2” shorter and added some beautiful lead tape. It won’t leave the bag until it cracks. It’s my favorite club to hit.

I've hit both and have the 2019 b/c the 2016 is hard to find in lefty. To me they are both great off the tee, great in the fairway but in feel the 2016 feels better. Not sure if it's the larger head or the jailbreak but the 2016 definitely wins the feel category. Besides feel, they are a wash to me. Had to go back and add, they matte finish on the 2016 is better than the gloss as well.

I ended up getting the '19 model and couldn't be happier. Beast of a club that doesn't hook like most hybrids for higher swing speed players.

I've got a 2,3,4 in the 16' model and a 3 in the 19 model. Just picked up a 16* 1 hybrid in the original 16' model so considering getting rid of the 19' head and going all 16' models.

Biggest difference for me is the 19 model has more weight out in the high toe area, and the face is shaped slightly differently. I would say 19 is more forgiving but 16 definitely looks better.

3 and 4 in the 2016 here. Coming from someone who typically gets an itch to replace things- the 2016 Apex hybrids are going nowhere.

Do you find the extra weight on the toe makes one more anti-left than the other (between '16 and '19)?

I would say so - feels easier to lead with the heel if that makes any sense, also feels like toe strikes don't have the same tendency to rope hook like others etc.

Any difference in perceived offset between the '16 and '19 heads? Also, based upon experience, what hybrid would follow a 4-iron distance wise? By loft it would be 20 degree but I'm not sure if these heads tend to be long that maybe 23 degree would match distance wise (even if lofts overlap)?
