Mizuno golf balls??

I used both the RB Tour and Tour X last year and they were good. IMO, they compete head to head with any ball on the market, Pro V1 included. I havent tried this year's models yet but I am looking to try the RB566 and 566V this year because they are more in the price range that Im looking for.

I loved the spin of the RB Tour but Im not looking to spend $50 on a dozen golf balls. The 566s are more in my price range, $20-$30 a dozen.

They are all made in Taiwan and I believe they are made by Foremost (although I dont know that for a fact) but theyre good balls.

Tried 2 of the premium Muzuno balls last year, I forget which 2. Didn't like either and gave rest away to my father in law, he plays whatever. Didn't really see any durability issues like others, just didn't like the feel at all. I'm a Mizuno homer so I was hoping to like them.

I bought some RB Tours last fall. Was really excited as I love Mizuno. Currently playa Mizuno driver and MP 100’s. The durability was terrible. I was lucky to get through 5 holes without beating up a cover badly enough to take the all out of play. Was very disappointed. I didn’t think Mizuno ever put out a poor product til I played those balls.

I saw a TXG interview with Chris Voshall of Mizuno the other day. Apart from it being super interesting, he said they had durability issues with the first couple batches and it gave them a very bad rep. They have since fixed it and believe it’s a very good ball. I will check out the Tour RB X and compare to the Snell MTB-X, which are fantastic.

Here’s the interview, it’s really great:

My problem with that is I bought my Mizuno balls in I believe late summer or early fall. They had the extreme durability issues so I got on WRX and looked them up and sure enough others were having trouble, and some posts were from months before if I’m remembering right. PLENTY of time to get those junk balls off the shelves and get a quality product out there. I wouldn’t have cared if they were $20-$30 but I played full premium price. Felt screwed. Didn’t expect that when I’ve always been so impressed with all their other products.

So I picked up a few dz RB Tour balls when golfballs.com was running a special on logo overruns. Only bought them on a whim to possibly use if I ever ended up getting a mat and net for home use. Ended up getting an insane deal as what I received were new in box and not a logo to be seen anywhere(final price per SS ended up being roughly $8/dz).

These never even crossed my radar as I’d seen mostly negative reviews on them regarding poor durability and shirt off the driver, and other balls like srixon can be had regularly on the cheap. Got them out for a round today and wow, I was really surprised. For me, they were as long or longer off driver and 3w off the tee both into the wind and downwind than my normal Z-Stars and B330S(2016). I wanted to test out the durability so I did managed to hit a tree trunk pretty square and hit a nice butter cut onto a cart path(intentionally not intentional). I expected to see nice big scratches and gouges after each hit and it only ended up having a few small abrasions no different than what I would see on the Z star or B330S. Greenside spin and full shot spin were up to par with the Srixon.

Feel was a tad on the firm side for a “non X” ball, but still adequately soft. To me, it felt right in between the ZStar and XV.

I’m now disappointed I didn’t stock up on more during the promo.

So into my second sleeve I experienced the durability issue on the second ball of the sleeve. Pulled out a fresh ball, hit a nice drive, then a partial wedge from about 75y. Bit nicely, and saw the dreaded smileys. The played the rest of the round(about 10 holes) with no durability issues on multiple wedge shots. Now I’m curious to see how the rest of the play out...have 3dz plus 2 sleeves left.
