I have this head in my bag (last year and the year before as well).

So here is the good news: They flat out perform, in my opinion it is the perfect face depth for a fw, and it is a pretty versatile club from different conditions.

Now that all that nonsense is out of the way, here is the bad news: They are not flashy, nobody will ask you what kind of 3 wood that is, they make a very nice but forgettable sound, they draw absolutely no attention. So I mean if you want a club that "performs well" go for it... if that is your thing.

That’s a real nice build. I rank them among the greatest fairway metals ever and I like the all-steel construction, which I think sound and feel better than the carbon heads. I have the 3 Deep with a Diamana Whiteboard and I have the harder-to-find 2 Deep with the same Aldila Tour 75 (Green, I assume, which is more common than the Blue in the 3 Deep) that you are looking at. The 2 Deep is essentially a high-loft driver you can hit off the ground, though it will produce missiles. The 3 Deep is a cannon off tee or turf. More versatile. When my driver acts up, the 3 Deep is a nice option. Shorter shaft yet gets it out there on tee shots. The Whiteboard helps give it some run out too, as will the Tour Green.

I like the no-nonsense look to them. Look kind if stealth. How it launches for you depends on you, but the combo you are looking at is low-launch and long. It won’t balloon. And if it doesn’t launch high enough for you, I’d really just swap in the mid-launch Tour Blue. I’ve played that shaft in several Callaway heads and there is a noticeable difference between the two. If it is mint that is a nice deal.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I think all the deep models (or at least x2hot deep) say “pro.”

I had the 3deep with tour green shaft a few years back when I was seriously struggling with driver & it certainly was long. Gave it to a buddy who still crushes it. Great club, I could never hit it well off the deck but I generally suck hitting fw off the deck.

This is correct. Only one version in the Deep heads ... And yeah, my nephew still plays his and he hits it a mile. He grabbed a 5 pro head he likes the X2 Hots so much.

I got one for a buddy who swings 112 on the driver (Tour Green x-stiff), 3 deep.

He liked it so much, that I built him a 5deep with the same shaft just tipped a bit more.

I owned the original and the Xhot2 , they were perfectly nice clubs, i just felt not super versatile due to their very deep faces. Of course that's the point of the club....Just not as useful if you are comfortable hitting a normal 13 degree 3 wood at least for me

The "thriver" concept seemed to be a bit of a fad for a while

Very much a unique club without a clear fit at times, but if it suits your game they're fantastic. My original 14.5 nearly kept up with the driver but wasn't good off the deck, so it left. But it was fun bombing a 3w for a while.

OP I've got the 18* 5Deep in the bag still, such a good club. Great off the tee, enough loft to be good off the deck. It should be enough to keep me from wandering, but... ho life.

Hey guys,

Just an update and a question for everyone. Still really enjoying this club and its putting my drivers to shame. Titleist 910D2 and a Cleveland HiBore XL Tour.

What driver would you guys recommend to complement this? I really like the feel of this club and would appreciate any advice on how to translate it into a driver.

If ive been to vague then let me know how i can help.

Thanks in advance :)

This same friend plays a 910 D2 8.5 driver, with the Aldila 65 TX shaft, and loves it as well.

We changed out from the stock shaft (think it was a made for Ahina 60).

They did make an X2Hot driver.
