Hi-Toe Wedge Finish Question

I just picked up a lightly used TM Hi-Toe wedge off eBay. On the shaft, there is a sticker that says "this Taylormade wedge may rust over time." My jet black Vokeys have a similar sticker on the shaft, and I have already given them the white vinegar treatment to produce a raw steel finish. I have looked around here and I can't seem to find a conclusive answer on whether the hi-toe wedges are actually raw or if they are plated underneath the copper finish. Does anyone know if soaking the wedge in vinegar will actually leave it raw? Or will I be left with a shiny plated wedge? Thanks!

It's raw, doesn't mean it will rust a lot. I have a hi toe and it hasn't really rusted. I also have some black vokeys that I stripped which didn't rust. I do have raw Callaway MD4's that did rust. I think the finish leaves a thin film or something that makes it more difficult to rust even after you remove the visual finish.

Consensus seems to be there's a nickel plating, not raw finish under the copper coating.

My primary concern is glare. I like the rusty look but I also really like the raw steel look before the rust.

Hi Toe is not a raw finish, it is essentially the same type of finish that the black nickel/pearl finish used by Vokey or Cleveland where is is plated on top, just in a different colour.

In the my HiToe store you can buy a fully raw HT wedge - which will wear and rust like a typical raw wedge.

Thanks gentles. What I don't get though is why TM would put a sticker on it saying that it will rust. If it's a plated finish, obviously it won't rust (as distinguished from the copper finish wearing off). So confusing.

Recently put mine in the hydrogen peroxide/vinegar bath. I thought I liked the “copper look” but I actually like this better!

I think it did it would discolor or tarnish, but I could be mistaken.

Those look awesome! How is the glare? Are they starting to rust like raw steel?

No rust and the glare isn’t bad at all. I would say mine are more of a satin bronze look. It may depend how long you leave them in the solution though. I did each or my wedges for about an hour.

Did you use salt in your solurtion? From what I have learned the recipie is 16 oz HP, 2 oz White vinegar and a tablespoon salt. There are a lot of YouTube videos on rusting metal and wedges. They spray it on the face not so much on the external part of the club
