Affordable Memberships in Houston Area

Looking for suggestions... After two years of navigating all the public courses within 75 miles of Houston and spending absurd amounts of money playing 1-3 times per week I have decided it is time to join a club. I am looking for something with low initiation fees and dues in the $200-300 range. Obviously nothing fancy but just a relatively challenging course that is well maintained.

i haven't lived in houston for five years, but this is going to depend on what side of town you're on ... if i lived on the south or west side, it'd be the wilderness in lake jackson, no doubt ... but that's weekend golf ...

What area? Sub 40? 200-300 is going to be hard to come by, 300-400 is doable though.

I love the Wilderness and their players program looks great but its an hour at least to get out there. I live downtown and I would like to be able to play weekdays wherever I join. If I was closer I would definitely be out there more often!

I was hoping to keep it under $300. I have found a couple places that are in that price range. Riverbend Country Club is $250 I believe and Galveston Country Club was $215 but thats a little far for me. I like Riverbend a lot but I just want to check out some other options before I join a club!

Eagle Pointe in Mount Belvieu is semi-private and I would think their membership is in your range. I was a member there for 13 years, awesome course and typically always in good shape.

Downtown to Galveston country club definitely rules out weekdays that does seem like a pretty good deal though. Don't know much about Riverbend but what I have heard has been positive.

You must be a "young executive" to get a $250 rate at Riverbend. Typically, the full golf membership is $500-600 before you step foot on the course. It's a good course with a great locker room.

I recently reached out to Northgate for their membership info out of curiosity.

 

Its in your price range. I reached out for Young Executive (i am 26) and it was $500 initiation and $240 a month dues, which includes carts.

Yes, I am 26 and they have two different Young Executive plans. 27 and under was the rate received but they have slightly higher for 28 to 35!

I was a member at Riverbend years ago as a junior and it was pretty good...nothing fancy. Course was always in pretty good shape, but everything else was not great. You should check out Kingwood CC. From downtown it wouldn’t be a terrible drive and they got a bunch of courses...probable pretty cheap. If you could swing a little more I’d join Champions... has to be the best junior deal in town...courses are great and in incredible shape. I’m a member at BraeBurn and it’s more than you want to spend I think and if you are downtown I’d definitely do Champions over BraeBurn.

played Magnolia Creek w few buddies this wknd. No idea what it costs, got eaten alive, but fun links style courses offering 27 holes. worth a look.

It is a little out of his price range, but not as far out as the champions and Kingswood CC recommendations

well, inside the loop is the place to be, but that's not good for the golf game ... wildcat isn't horrible, and it has 2 courses ... and one of the nines comes back to the clubhouse, i seem to recall ... good for a weekday quickie ...

Yeh I guess you can say I played it this weekend as well. 36 holes Saturday, Sunday and yesterday. I am a Club Corp member ( 11 years now ) but play 95% of my golf here. We usually get in 36 every Sat / Sun. They have multiple membership options depending on how much you want to play and then if you ride or walk makes a big difference in price.

In the loop really does suck for golf. I can’t afford river oaks. Memorial is a zoo. Wildcat is pretty meh - I don’t like the gimmicky layout of a lot of the holes and pretty much hate every par 5 on both courses.

 

weekends I just bite the bullet and drive an hour to get to one of the better tracks, but with the commute time added in a round of golf eats up most of the day.

 

I love my neighborhood for just about everything else - food, walkability, proximity to work - but the golf piece sure does stink.
