DJ back to the Rombax at the Driving Relief

Looks like he is back to the rombax in the driver & he still can’t putt a lick.

Why he refuses to go to a less toe hang putters is a mystery to me.

DJ almost looked like he could not care less. I think he is someone that at some point will just say screw it a be done. He used to be a very good putter, but I just don't think he cares anymore.

Honestly none of them really looked like they took it too serious and I'm not saying that in a bad way it just looked like they had a fun round between friends and it helped two charities.

Also I never really remember DJ being a really good putter, always seemed to struggle/lack confidence in his putting.

Well maybe good putter is a bit of a stretch but he seems to be much worse..

He struggles for sure, I think before the lock down he'd be practicing with 3 or 4 putters before a round to find what is best for him. I think it was his new Spider X, older Spider Tour, Cameron & Co and an Edel Brick. Lots of guys kept saying he should just use the Cameron & Co because it's so nice but he's so awful with that putter it never gets played.

DJ should not have been in that event. He did not even try and it was not fun to watch. I think Jon Rahm was suppose to be in it but TM didn't want him to travel.

That old Speeder has been whatever his custom shaft is with a Speeder Evolution paint job on it. Supposedly its a custom shaft built for him that dates back to the Rombax period, of which he also had a fairway version. He used the Rombax 115i in a driving iron back then too. Those Speeder Evolution shafts can be tricky because there are all sorts of different models hidden under that paint job for tour guys, mostly shafts from the Motore line.

So what is the point of hiding a shaft with the paint job of a different shaft, especially an outdated one? Obviously I am missing something here.

Because they want people to think he is playing the new(ish) model. People see Speeder with a 320+ bomb and they might be more inclined to ask a fitter or golf store employee about that shaft next time they are in. We have no idea if it is an old model or not, it could have been the original Speeder 661 Evo that Titleist uses in their driver (kind of a greeny-gray finish) and he just likes the shaft so much he wants that one in his club and doesn't see the point of changing the paint. Taylormade was notorious for this during the R7-R15 days where no matter what shaft you bought in your club it had the same paint scheme as everyone else. They painted their shafts on tour too. It helped keep homogeneity to the brand. I personally don't see anything wrong with it but also really don't see the point, either.

Same reason hockey players use paint jobs on their sticks to make it seems like they are in the latest stick, when reality is, most of them are in something old, or totally different than the paint job indicates. Marketing.

With his length, if he actually gained strokes putting, the talk about him would be all different. I actually wonder if he couldn't just get better with his iron play. Get hole high more.

As for his demeanor on the course, who knows. Maybe its a defense to getting over-hyped. Some people have to exaggerate that to make it work for them especially at such a high level of competition.

Exactly, Anybody who owns an uncut one knows it's a Rombax. It's clear as day in the unpainted butt section.

I had never actually looked at the butt section of the shaft assuming it was all just a grey Speeder Evolution paint job, but yeah, definitely looks like the Rombax weave:

You would be shocked the amount of people who argued with me about this. I own an uncut in the R1 "Fuel 2.0" Paint job. Exactly the same......

Now from what I've heard it was a prototype Rombax that really doesn't fully fit the old Z, W, X Rombax Lineup.

Oh interesting, I had wondered about the Fuel shaft as well. Didn't Dustin play the Rogue Silver for a minute? I assume that one couldn't have been his Fuji Rombax, although at this point I would assume that every Fuji shaft he has played (excluding the Ventus?) would have been.

I think any of the 2.0 Tour Spec or 2.0 TM painted are all this exact same model that you and I have with different paint.

You are correct about the Ventus as well it really is a Ventus.

This. DJ is just aloof but he's won a tourney every year for over a decade. That's insane consistency. With that said i think he's not the best person for commentary and an event like the Drive for Relief.
