Garmin S62 Thread

That's impressive. Only thing I would improve on my Bushnell Phantom is the battery life/allowing it to be used while charging. I carry a charger in the bag so can connect to carts that have usb ports if need a charge in a pinch, but dang thing doesn't work while charging.

Played mt first round with the S62 yesterday. Coming from the Vivoactive 3 I was already a little familiar with some of the features. Definitely need to do some more playing to get a better feel for all the features. One thing I am not sure if I am going to keep on is the Virtual Caddie. Wasn't a huge fan of interacting with the watch after every shot to select which club I hit. And I can decide which club to hit on my own. Other than that I liked having the hole layout on the screen and easier access to the hazard information. It is a good looking watch too. Much better than my Vivoactive 3 Music was.

That is actually like Arcoss. If you enter the club after each shot, you get a shot by shot read out based on GPS in the Garmin Golf app. It keeps your driving stats and accuracy along with GIR. I am finding it very useful to go back and look at my round shot by shot. The watch does learn your averages after 5 rounds and uses them on the Virtual Caddie.

Yeah. I have been using the Grint and am trying to decide to stick with that or totally convert to Garmin for stat tracking. I have Grint Pro and would just upload my scorecard at the end of the round. I just like writing my score and stats down at the end of the hole and being done with it. I guess if I shut off the virtual caddie Garmin would do the same. It was just entering the club after every shot a found cumbersome. I'll give it a few more rounds to see if it becomes more natural.

I currently use Garmin Fenix 5x Sapphire for Golf and other activities like Running, Hiking, Crossfit etc. I am thinking about buying Garmin ApproachS62. But unsure if I need a second watch just for Golf or not. Based on the Golf features, how much is it different from Garmin Fenix 5x Golf features? I know there are few major features available on the watch but i am debating whether buying S62 worth spending the money. Thanks in advance!!!

I would honestly say "No", not if it's only an extra watch for golf usage. These are the differences between your Fenix 5x and the Approach S62:

Custom targets Full vector map PinPointer PlaysLike distance Touch-targeting (touch target on display to see the distance to any point) Handicap scoring SwingTempo Tempo Training Wind speed and direction (requires connection to the golf app) Virtual caddieAs you can see it's not that many and most of them doesen't make that big of a difference to make it worth spending that much money on a watch that will only be used for golfing.

Thats seriously impressive, especially since the S60 could barely squeeze out 2 full 18 hole rounds on full battery! Only thing missing now is some of the basic features that some of the cheaper watches have like Pulse Ox sleep tracking, VO2 Max and some other stuff and this would be an impressive watch for all around use.

Hi All, how is the sensitivity of the buttons on the side plse? I used to have the Garmin S6, but returned it after a couple of rounds! I found that my wrist or sleeve kept catching on the buttons, playing havoc with the screens! Yes, I know you can lock the watch, which will probably prevent this, but having to constantly lock and unlock a touch-screen watch must surely be a right PITA lol!?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I previously had the Garmin S6 watch and went with the Fenix 5x sapphire last year and I will not look back. The difference in battery life is night and day. I can get 4-5 rounds out of a charge with the Fenix where I could barely get 27 holes with S6. I understand batter on S62 is better but I am sure it will decline quicly but the Fenix battery life is designed to last.

In all honestly the one feature I do wish it had was custom targets since I had a bunch of targets in my S6 but I quickly realized that was a nice to have. I have always used a laser rangefinder while playing even with the watch so still able to get most of the distances needed

For me the single watch for running, cycling, walking, golf etc has been positive for me.

Can't speak to the s62 - but I found the same problem with the s60. It does have functionality to lock the buttons out that helps a little bit. But it takes a press a few seconds long to unlock it and I found my glove would accidentally unlock the unit occasionally. But what it really needs is a button guard. Been thinking of trying to making one out of petex.

Cool... I'm bored and going to try to motivate to do a full on review of it... got mine yesterday, today is the first day I've worn it... sadly, my golf time is very limited right now... but I wanted it for more than just golf, so we will see.

I'm two days into the watch as a "smart watch" and liking it... haven't gotten to try it as a golf watch yet... looking forward to that.

Have been using the S20 since it originally came out, but thinking about upgrading to the S62. The size looks pretty large though. That's why I'm thinking the S40 might be a better fit.

Can anyone comment on the size difference?

The 62 is definitely big... I'm not a small man, and it takes up most of my wrist. .. but looking at pictures, it does not appear to be significantly bigger than the S40... I like the size of the watch during rounds, and don't notice how large it is most of the time (I had struggles putting on a button up shirt with it, but I'm also somewhat of an idiot).

I really like the features of the S62 thus far... I'm working on a complete review as a side project right now.

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing the review. The 47MM size definitely isn't small by any means.

I started working on initial thoughts after my first round with it, but got interrupted. I’ll try to finish it tomorrow and I’ll pm it to you... it will be another three weeks or so before I’m done.

i really like the watch, though.

Thanks! I can get the watch for $399, which helps since I'm liking the virtual caddy feature. I've loved the S20 since it came out. Most helpful feature was the distances to hazards and it was a big upgrade from the S2 I had been using for years.

I haven't tried the virtual caddie yet, and haven't given the watch enough information to recommend clubs... I"m interested in using it once I get some more rounds in... as a side note, I was in Golf Galaxy today and compared the S40 to the s62... it's not a HUGE size difference. Noticeable, but I can't imagine the S62 being too big unless you think the S40 is as big as you'd ever want to use...

I caved and bought the S62 from Golf Galaxy last week. Story was closed but super easy to do curbside pickup.

Have 4 rounds on the watch so far and VERY impressed. Huge upgrade from the S6. First of all I had it on all day yesterday, played 36 holes and the battery is at 62% this morning - and it was left on last night. This is huge for me, almost worth the upgrade in itself. The hazard view is excellent and more importantly the response time is almost instant when you push a button. I used to use the Measure Shot function a lot on the S6 so the fact that it does it automatically is great, really got used to that.

I wont be using the round tracking features or anything like that so cant say how that was but overall I am really impressed. I'm normally leery about paying full price for stuff like this and not waiting on a sale but this was a good purchase.

@Aggielefty I was asked if you'd have any objection as the OP to changing the thread title to just 'S62 thread' or something along those lines.
