After a month of Tinkering - My 2020 WITB!

Recommended Posts

Woods - CURRENTLY PLAYING A SIM MAX WITH TOUR AD DI 6

SIM MAX 15 WOOD WITH TOUR AD DI 7

SIM MAX HYBRID 19 DEG TOUR AD DI 85

Sim - Diamana Black 65s

I was fitted for a TS3 but the Sim Max was just more forgiving enough that I went with it. Good hits on most drivers were the same but bad hits on the Sim Max were just better than the rest.

After 6 rounds the Driver has been amazing. (Found it a bit Left once the season started and I had some more SS)

Switched to SIM and it's amazing. So long.

Sim Max 3 Wood - Stock Shaft

Like most "forgiving" Fairway TM fairway woods they are long and awesome. This once launches higher than the M6 Rocket I played last year but the rocket was slightly longer. This one is Really easy to hit off the deck. Again I hit it left and the stock shaft was way too light

(SIM MAX FAIRWAY BETTER THAN SIM, MAX WITH DI 7 INCOMING)

Hybrid - 19 Deg Sim Max - Tour AD DI 85

This hybrid is so good. So easy to hit, high launching and perfect amount of release. Love it.

Irons -- CURRENTLY PLAY T100 PX 6.0

2020 has been a stupid year.

Had MP53s in the bag on and off for 12 years. Played them most of 2019. The best irons I've ever used.

Got fitted for PxG 0311T this winter - took them to florida and struggled with the long irons. Gave them to a friend

Ordered 0311P instead - Hated them - they were huge and felt horrible compared to the T.

tired / demoed - T100 (Same as any other Ap2 - solid all around, Excellent irons may put them in play)

MP 20 MMC - Hated them - felt 'thin'.. Haven't been impressed with mizuno MP irons in a long time.

Wedges - CURRENTLY PLAYING SM8 52 56S 60M WITH PX 6.0

SM8 so far have been amazing. 52 56S 60M was a winning Combo. They look and feel great.

I "might" add a 54M and dump the 52 56 to dumb things down a bit

New Setup

Demoed the D Grind. The 60D is so good. I clip the D grind so clean. I'm a sweeper and these fit me great. The M grind is also great but the little extra bounce prevents me from Digging.

I have 54 and 60 D (After a few rounds I will likely switch back to my standard 52 56s 60m combo)

Putter - 2020 newport 2.

I always play newport or newport 2. I liked the newport 2 more this year. A putter is a putter for me. I tried the 2020 Squareback it sounded horrible.

currently demoing a odyssey triple track 2 ball. I look like a clown but its super easy to line up

Those are some pretty irons. I've always loved blade type cavity backs since the 90's.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

So my first round with the MMC had mixed results.

The Irons are good - they don't quite feel as "solid" as the T100.

The wedges are fantastic. They spin like crazy. But I don't like how they don't have the numbers on the sole - It's annoying having to move them around to look at the loft.

The HMB 3 iron was crap but I never hit driving irons well so it's just me.

I love my woods and putter even though today was an off day.

I think the T100 will be in the bag for 2020 along with the SM8.

I had the MMCs. Thought they felt real good but sole grind really dug on me. Switched to the t100-S and the preworn leading edge has made a really big difference for me. I would say the T100-S feel a little more stable then then mizunos. They are in my bag with SM8s which I also to find way better then other vokeys

The SM8 are unreal.

I ordered the Mizuno set way back in Feb but they just arrived after UPS sent them back to mizuno then held my package for a month.

I will give them another go - 2 more rounds this weekend but I'm almost 100% sure the T100 and SM8 will be in the bag.

As a matter of fact i will probably list the MMC right now lol.

Those T100's are beauties too. When I first started playing golf in the 90's forged blade type cavity backs were hard to find, especially for someone on a budget. I currently have a soft cast version that the good shots feel close to blades that fit my budget but it's also nice to dream about the best examples of this genre.

couple updates

sim woods with tour ad di 6 in driver di 7 in max 3 wood and 85h in hybrid

The sim woods are legit, maybe the best I ever hit. Long straight and easy to hit in the air. I love them

T100 and SM8 with PX6.0 just arrived. I played 714 with PX and loved them. Hopefully the T100 will be just as good!

using a triple track 2 ball for a putter right now but I hate it. But I haven't missed a short putt since buying it so its staying in the bag for a bit I guess.
