5 wood shaft

Need some recommendations/advice for a 5 wood shaft. Playing epic flash sz. Currently have tensei blue 75x. Driver is Ventus black 7x playing at 45.25. Ss 122, smooth tempo.

looking to take away left side, little bit stiffer. Used primarily off the tee on shorter par 4’s. Dispersion and accuracy are key in what I’m looking for.

boys at txg just did fitting for the fuji pro2.0 tour spec and pro 2.0. Tensei pro white?

also, main question I have is should I go with a 7x or 8x? Or even consider a hybrid shaft as I like to play it a bit shorter.

appreciate the help!

The pro 2.0 is a fantastic shaft, a step above the ATMOS tour spec line IMO which is also a huge sleeper shaft that people tend to dismiss - as they do the pro 2.0

The pro 2.0 is getting lots of recognition now due to the txg videos and the used prices are going up

I play the pro 2.0 in my hybrid and 5 wood, and currently the pro 2.0 TS in my driver. I dont play it in my 3 wood, though.

I have a ventus black and blue hopefully coming in the next week or two, so we'll see how they compare.

My first thought is the same default response you typically see for posts like these: get fit. Hit a few different shafts with a qualified fitter, after telling him/her what you are trying to accomplish, what you are playing now, and have him watch you hit some balls with your current setup before trying out shafts.

But I get that this may not be possible at present, so...

If you stay within the Fuji line, I'd be moving up to an 8x. You're playing 7x in your driver and you want stiffer, heavier or both to remove left from the equation. If you want to replace the Pro Blue 75x with another Tensei, I think the answer depends on the launch window and your swing characteristics. Pro White launches lower than Pro Blue, but their profiles are different and match up with different swings (are you smooth to the top and then rip through the ball? Or quick swing with hard transition?) Both Pro White and Pro Blue come in an 80x, which would give you the added weight/stiffness to help remove the miss left. I'm playing Pro White 80s in a 19* 818H2 (delofted to 18*) and Pro White 80x in my 21* 818H2. I can turn over the 80s, but I want that in the 18* to take advantage of doglegs. I can't turn over the 80x unless I really try to, which was what I wanted in the 21*.

I've got a Fuji Pro TS 93 in my 5 wood. Very, very stable. If you were fit for it, may as well give it a try. You might want the higher weight, much higher weight possibly. I look at my 5 wood as a "finally found a hybrid I like" club, so the heavy shaft makes good sense there. I have a Ventus Blue 7X in my driver and Speeder 8.2 Tour Spec X in my strong 3 wood. I swing between 110-115 with the driver.

The tensei I have is just the oem stock blue, which is why I think many of these are going to give a better result.

yes, that’s always been typical response...get fit. Club champion is really the only shop locally that would even have many of these to hit and try. After you pay $150 for a fitting, just seems to buy the $100-$150 shaft instead.

Would it be something I should consider putting in a hybrid shaft for a little heavier weight? Maybe play at 41” raw. Rather than cutting down a wood shaft from 46”.

I havent hit the EF black, so can't comment on it.

IMO the pro 2.0 really isnt that expensive - you can get fairway shafts for around $100 on ebay.

Any experience with an evenflow black or blue? Good comparison to the pro2.0 and 2.0 ts? Just a poor man’s version?

For this 5 wood club, turned down to 17* and launching at 10.5* with 4100 rpms, so thinking the pro 2.0 is the better route as I don’t want to lower spin much more and don’t want a lower launch. With these numbers, I had the 14g weight at the face, but now have since moved it to the heel to add stability, but have yet to hit it like this.

Im thinking if I went evenflow blue, am I correct in thinking it’s more or less same as the tensei blue that I have??

But would get a good amount more stability if I went with the pro 2.0?

IMO a problem with getting fit for fairway woods is that the primary success metric remains distance. If you’re a longer hitter and carry both a 3 and 5 wood, you can end up with effectively three drivers with different shaft lengths. At least at the majority of places I play, many short par 4’s have some type (or types) of defense that turns them into target golf. A 5 wood with adequate height and spin to stop reliably makes it the ‘strokes gained’ leader in the bag.

Thanks for the info. I only carry a driver and 5 wood for exactly what you just described. No use for it...

I have a higher ss, 120+ in driver, Playing a 7x. How is the stability with this? Did you tip it at all?

Any experience with the fujikura pro 2.0? How it would compare? Similar profiles, just more price friendly?

Again, this is just my experience. Many wouldn’t agree.

I’ve hit the the Pro 2.0 in S. I see it as a driver shaft. It’s like the HZDRUS Black Smoke line with a slightly softer handle. Very controlled, excellent feel of club head position... And low, flat, and low spin, which is the opposite of what I want in a 5 wood.

The EF Blue maintains an adequate level of control and feel, but launches higher with a small amount more spin without needing to swing hard to achieve those characteristics. IMO the last thing you want is a fairway wood that you have to swing hard to perform.

The Tensei Blue is more like a detuned Pro 2.0 for lower swing speeds than a shaft that excels in a FW.

At your SS, it’s at least somewhat likely that your results would be similar to this - Project X EvenFlow Blue/Black ShaftsAnd that the Black 6.5 would be the best solution.

Got another one for you, and looking at your setup, you could speak to it....Found a few offers on ebay for some of these pro 2.0 standard & TS.....

Knowing looking for a stiffer shaft, but a softer for a little more spin and launch. I have a higher swing speed and looking for consistency

Thoughts and performance on playing tipping 1/2" pro 2.0 7x or 8x VS tipping a 2.0 TS 8S(STIFF) maybe a 1/2" or so. I know the TS is going to be a much stiffer profile, but tipping a stiff to bring just under an X flex to soften and raise spin and launch, yet helping to keep off left side?

I'm new to all this clubmaking such, so let me know if I'm off guard here or if I'm on to something.....Or just make it easy and consider the atmos tour spec blue? Thoughts on that shaft...

I would only use tipping to modify ball flight and tip feel - dont consider it a change of flex.

If your SS puts you in X, go with X - if S, stick with S - etc.

The Pro 2.0 line, both the regular and TS, are in my opinion not overly stiff shafts. They both play pretty true to flex but the TS will be more linear feeling and lower launching.

Again, it's all player dependent because some people call the ATMOS TS Black overly stiff and I dont agree with that. My idea of feel is different so YMMV.

With that said, I'm playing the ATMOS TS Blue in my 3w right now and if I go at it hard I will pull it left (old 2w shaft was a Kai'li). I'm not sold on 'black profiles' for my woods just yet since I like high launch and spin with woods so I can reach Par 5's in 2.

I'm playing a Pro 2.0 8-S in my 3h, and a Pro 2.0 7-S in my 5w tipped .5" (stock spec).

Go back and watch the TXG video again - it seems like the Pro 2.0 TS would be a good fit for you. If not, the regular should work just fine.

Ventus Blue 8X tipped 1/2 inch. That is one stable shaft and being a little softer in the handle and mid will still let it perform when you want to take a little off one. The stiff tip should mitigate the left misses.

The pro 2.0 line is counterbalanced, so if you have a non counterbalanced shaft in your driver, it may feel strange to use one in your fairway.

Another option would be the Ventus Black 8X, but leaving it untipped to be just a bit more friendly.

Yes, I can look at some EI curves and give some recommendations. I don’t play the Evenflow Black in anything anymore. Need to update my signature. I like to feel the shaft more like it has a specific bend point. What feel do you like in a shaft - similar to Ventus?

Truth is...haven’t even hit it yet. I recently upgraded my 2017 M2 with a hzrdus yellow and liked how it felt stable. But I am more of a feel player and like the shaft to feel smoother.

don’t even get to play much anymore, so really shouldn’t even have bought the Ventus, but it just seemed too fun in this crazy time.

I’m looking for stable. I hardly use on par 5’s as playing muni courses primarily. Short par 4’s off the tee.

HZRDUS Red can be had for very cheap used. 75 6.5 flex.

Old Fujis are often sold new uncut for slashed prices. The Motore Speeder .1, .2, .3 series or tour spec .2, .3 are great shafts.

If you’ve already liked HZRDUS yellow, that means you do fine with high balance point shafts and the whole world opens up to you.

It’s not a bad shaft, just not a great fit for my swing. I couldn’t feel much of anything happening in the shaft as far as a specific bend point, so it was hard for me to maintain my timing. If that’s a feel you like, it may work very well for you.

Any experience with the graphite design purple ice or ys+ shafts? Obviously they’re older, but seeing great reviews and good prices on eBay. Having trouble finding profiles and what it would be compared to in a modern shaft. Seems like a stiffer av blue or a softer evenflow black with more feel? Am I on the right track?

Interesting....why did it ultimately win for you?  Why the F3 vs F1?  Lower spin?

At this point, the 2.0TS was going to be the choice, being counterbalanced so I could add some head weight.  Are these motore's cb at all?

You have any experience with the rogue white?

Yes the Pro 2.0 TS is Cb'd but only by about .5-1SW point in my experience messing with it and SW'ing my driver head - which at the time was an epic flash.

The motore is not a CB shaft; philosophically that's all relative I guess as balance point is different with each manufacturer and there is no real standard for making it 'CB'. but the motore is definitely not.

I had the new motore F1 for a while and it was just too off for me and the profile didnt help my swing characteristics. The F3 is great. Oddly enough quite a few high power swingers are being fit into the f3 over the f1 - see the TXG video.

Yea I watched that video, which was my first thought and my only hesitation on ordering it...On paper, the F1 is the better fit.....no good fitting spots locally, so a bit of a gamble.
