Anybody working with the G-Box?

Recommended Posts

Worked with it at his range this weekend.

It has a line on the lead hip box, which shows you if you’re turning deep enough. A good hip turn with enough lateral bend will make that line show up right under you. If you can’t see the line clearly, your shoulder turn is too flat.

From the top, that box is going to be an obstacle if the arms fall in behind you or you tug on the handle. It’s better than a stick in the front belt loop, because that drill will force your arms to get in too deep.

He’ll put a before and after up on his Instagram with a young kid. The before and after was ridiculous.

Mine hasn't arrived, yet. A friend of mine at my club got his and I worked with it briefly, but I mostly helped him out with it. He follows GG a little bit, but doesn't really know a lot of what GG teaches.

For him, he's markedly improved. He was a good player before, but had a very steep attack angle (-7* with the driver). I don't know what his AoA with the G Box training was afterward since we didn't have the Trackman handy, but it had to be much more shallow. The ball flight, launch, etc. are vastly different.

The last in person lesson I had with GG a year ago he discussed some of the seamline stuff. I guess I didn't quite grasp it until he showed the G Box training videos. So in my spare time I've been mostly focusing on the seamline as I wait for my GBox to arrive and it has had a nice impact on my game, particularly with my irons. I tend to not get enough turn and over-tilt and it makes the low point erratic and with the seamline practice my low point control has improved tremendously.

With the driver I've been a little inconsistent, but I've avoided those left misses and that alone has helped my scores.

I've seen guys use the planemate and have great success as well. I think the GBox is great at teaching a quality backswing pivot and helps with not pulling the arms down too quickly in the downswing.

It can also help with the pelvic tilt in the downswing, although I've used an alignment stick to measure that and it never really works when I train for it.

I have kept this swing as a visual as to what I want my pivot to resemble. Beautiful turn in the backswing with the tilts perfectly in place and you almost can't help but lower into the ground and use the ground to help pivot thru in the downswing.

My apologies on the wording, sir.

The way George teaches is to get the elbow on the front of the trail hip at p6. The lead shoulder opening up brings the handle over the lead shoe for impact.

The trail box on the Gbox sits on the seam line of the shirt, which gives a little more room for the elbow to sit as the player shallows. Having the stick up front just gives a little less room to do that. Depth was a bad term.

Good training aid for me just from a checkpoint perspective, especially for upper body and hip turn checkpoints in the backswing.

I’m already in a decent spot in the transition/early downswing and my arms are really far forward, so the back box isn’t quite as useful for me. I’m sure it’s super useful for many folks.

As a general training aid out of many training aids out there, it checks the boxes (some pun intended) of what it’s intended to do. It’s worth a look if you’re having issues visualizing rotation in the backswing and steep in the transition and downswing with the arms not far forward enough.

After watching the drills video I've been practicing with a virtual Gbox. Yeah, it just means I imagine that I'm wearing one haha. I found that it's a lot easier me for me to get shallow and get my elbow in front of the right box than getting the left box almost behind you before impact. It feels so ridiculously open. But I found it improves contact immensely. I might build a ghetto Gbox since they are out of stock. I see a velcro lifting belt on Amazon for $7.

I'm pleasantly surprised with how the G-Box works. It's important to watch the YouTube videos so the boxes are positioned properly along with the drills, faults and fixes.

What I've found interesting about the G-Box is for me, when I swing with it correctly it feels 'right' instead of feeling extremely odd and having to get used to it. When I swing with it correctly it just all makes sense for me.

It's also a good tool to warm up with. I have a few bad tendencies that usually occur early in practice sessions and if they do not get squared away then they can last the entire practice session and be ingrained into my swing. Putting the G-Box on to warm up really helps eliminate or greatly reduce those tendencies.

What I've found recently is how to swing left and do it with the trail arm in external rotation into impact. It creates a visual/feeling of Hunter Mahan's swing. My low point control has improved considerably as well.

So I will give my quick review. I got my GBox last night. When I got home and opened it up, it was nicely pack and the 3 items (2 boxes and 1 belt) were all individually wrapped. All items seem to be of good quality. I was excited to put it on and give it a whirl, as I feel my right elbow comes down BEHIND my right hip as my downswing progresses. Much like Matt Kuchar's swing. So, i put on the belt, put on the two boxes as the video suggested and make my normal swing.....nothing happens. The left box gets around correctly at the top of the backswing. On the way down, my elbow doesn't touch the right hand box at all. I make about 5 more swings looking in the mirror and still nothing. So already disappointment is starting to set in. I took the belt off and went upstairs for dinner. After dinner, I returned to see why I was not making contact with the right hand box. I adjust the right hand box, moving it forward on the belt (a little in front of the shirt seem) and magic happens. I have not hit a ball yet, but the visual of the right elbow moving in front of the shirt seam looks great, shallows the club. So tonight I will try to hit some balls with it. I'm not sure if i am built a little different (short arms), but I need to move the box a little forward on the belt to make the downswing move the GBox is designed to help.
