P790 udi

I don't see any reviews in a search.

I just got this from FedEx today and tried it out. I went with the hazardous smoke 90 g shaft in mind. To me it seems like this club is cheating.

The worst ball I hit today on the range was the first ball that I attempted to hit. After settling down and not trying to crush the ball, to say that the ball launched like a bullet would be an understatement. I actually lent it out to two other range colleagues because they were wondering what I was hitting so well. The poor shots went 220 to 230 yards, but the Good shots were landing between 240 and 2:50 with 10 to 15 yards of roll. It's safe to say that I'll be removing my three wood from the bag and using this on a lot more of the holes I play. Hopefully this will help shave off a few strokes that I'm giving back due to being inconsistent with the driver.

I think what shocked me the most was how light and fast the club felt compared to my standard irons. I'm currently using the 716 AP2s with s300 shafts. This is making me consider moving to graphite in all of my irons after the way I hit this.

Has anyone else been using this in their bag?

I had one with Smoke 6.5 shaft. Loved it off the tee. It scared my 3w a few times. But, ended up selling it recently for an Apex 2H with Tour AD DI 95x. Got a very similar ball flight and distance but can use off the fairway and out of light rough with ease, which was something the UDI really struggled with. For me, the UDI was a bit one dimensional. YMMV.

I have the Apex 3H and the thing can do it all. Never had a chance to try the P790 b/c they don't make it in lefty.

Honestly 2-3 shots with my Apex and a driving iron was the last thing on my mind. Have the AD DI 95x in the 3H 20 degree. Nice draw 240-250 carry and the next shot was a baby fade 230-235. Can't ask for more when it's easy to shape both ways and can hit it high.

Killer driving irons, although not being able to find a P790 review is like not being able to find sunshine in Arizona. ?

So I don't really expect to be able to hit a two-iron out of the rough anyways. I feel like if I'm the rough the last thing I'm going to do is hit a two-iron and potentially get in a worse spot. This club is mostly to be used off a tee or in the fairway from my understanding. How often and are given round would you use a two iron in the rough?

I have the previous gen. I love the club and use it from the tee a lot from the fairway and the odd time sitting up in the rough. Very easy to hit.

I never switched to the new gen as most reviews said it was very similar and if it aint broke then why fix it!

I recently switched from a bent p790 3 iron to the udi 2 iron. I put an x7 shaft in it 4 days ago, it is now my favorite club in my bag. Which sucks cause I’m pretty in love with all the clubs at the top of my bag.

it has a bigger head than the 3 iron and better Efficiency for me. Very fun club. It’s chunky, but can go 290 so I will not be complaining anytime soon

I agree 2i out of the rough is a bad idea, but the club in this spot in my bag (2i, 2 or 3H, or 5w) needs to be as adaptable as possible. My Apex hybrid does everything my UDI did off the tee and is miles better out of the fairway and even light rough. Only my 5 wood (XR 16 pro 18*) is better coming into greens but is a bit of a floater off the tee so I keep it for still days on longer courses

790 UDI is an absolute monster. I had a tensei pro orange shaft in it and hit low bullets off the tee over and over. Its so fun to hit!!!

I might not play as aggressively as I should be then. I rarely hit my 3w out of the fairway so it's usually reserved for off the tee. With the UDI I essentially cut my dispersion in half.

If I'm more than 210 from the green I'm usually laying up to a good yardage. It hurts me on some longer par 4s if I don't catch my drive but saves me from some big numbers I was getting last year.

I have a 3h as well but it just doesn't not ever feel like I hit it solid and it goes straight in the air. Mind you it still carries plenty far just not a rewarding club to hit feel wise haha.

D- 260

2i- 220-240

4i- 200

5i- 190

A bit of a gap but again, I am not really playing those distances.

When I see the Apex I'll have to give it a shot though!

Most people will have a strong preference for one vs the other, so I don’t think there are too many that hit both enough to compare...but they would be in the ballpark. Closer to each other than the clubs before or after them, What’s more important is that both of those clubs will fit somewhere between 3W and 4i. Most only have 1 spot for a club in between those 2, so they choose hybrid or UDI.

Yes I’ve played it, but no unlesss u have a really high swing speed or a big gap between set 4 iron and 5 wood (or you do not carry a 3 wood), it will likely be a redundant club. Now if u wanted to build one to replace the 5 wood on windy days, that makes sense to me. Fwiw, I like the udi more than the p790 3 iron. More forgiveness for my swing at least
