Shorter runway too. You certainly couldn't land there in the rain unless you had thrust reversers. And who knows about FBO services. That said, we once played a tournament in VA outside DC. After the tournament, we left from a podunk airport right near the course, and landed in a podunk airport right near home. That was an awesome trip lol.

Instant candidate for consideration into the GolfWRX Hall of Fame thread list. It has it all:

Β

World class passive brag.World class virtue signaling that I am an evolved common man.World class bafoonery that this is even a rational decision.Continuing the foolishness for 2 pages.Getting people to respond sincerly.

Couple of tips through:

Should have mentioned something about feeling guilty about flying private so you are considering buying carbon offsets.

Since considering flying commercial you will probably take the old Callaway game improvement irons instead of the PXGs.

I appreciate you giving me that much credit but I don’t have anywhere to ask and get such great feedback.

Β

Ive been on this jet 4 times for trips, but have been told by so many people that the drive is gorgeous similarly to Monterrey. That’s the point I was asking about. Last summer we did Ireland and the driving with the guys in the bus was what brought the whole trip together.

Β

Make no mistake, I’ll be drinking caymus on the plane.

I've never driven from Portland or Eugene to BD. But I live in N Calif and we drive regularly to BD rather than fly commercial. That United flight is the WORST. You might not get clubs/clothes or worse yet we had one of our party get left in SF. when you pencil it out it's just as fast to fly just less sitting in car rather than airport for us. But I digress, the drive from I-5 to Bandon is very pretty but I would fly private to North Bend everytime is there was no cost. I've only done that once at a reasonable amount and it was awesome.

I live in Portland and go to Bandon at least once a year.

I always drive, it takes about four hours (I5 south/Rt38/101), and the transition from Eugene/Drain to the coast (rt 38) is very beautiful (about an hour of the drive).

That being said, there is nothing to do or to stop for on Rt 38 (a two lane road) and I5 South and 101 South segments are nothing to brag about.

Every year, one of my Portland-based friends begs us to take a plane from Portland to North Bend, and I have never done it. I think he just want to tell people he flies private.

Most years (we have an annual trip) I have some friends who are coming from the east coast and I pick them up at their PDX hotel in the morning and we catch up for 4 hours on the ride down.

Time always passes quickly. I would miss these conversations if we flew.

Bandon State airport is close, but at 3,600 feet is too short for most jets and many turboprops. I’ve flown in there a few times in 4 and 6 place props, back when I windsurfed in the area. It is a former military field, so well built, and there is a small flying club that sells 100LL (no Jet A). Daylight only ops. And abnormally WINDY!!

We have an annual jan/Feb trip where we fly private from Sacramento. Hour each way in the air and 30 minute drive each way to the course plus a stop at Safeway in town to load up supplies means we can leave in the morning, play day of arrival, and then play last day first thing and be back on our couches at 2pm.

Β

Went in the summer last year with a different group so no plane. Had to leave at 5am cause the drive is about 9 hours. The drive there honestly wasn't bad cause of the anticipation and time with buddies but even in the summer we barely got a late afternoon round in the day of. Planned to get up and leave first thing the last day but were stupid enough to go play first and then didn't get home till 10pm and were wiped. The drive home is the worst 9 hours ever spent in a car, just want to be home, tired of your buddies, sore. Exaggerating a little but really not. Take the plane

Varies vastly based on size, number of passengers, and load/mission required. Jets are typically classified in small, midsize, super midsize, or large and could be in the ballpark $8k-$30k round trip depending on which size and variant. For 4 passengers each with golf clubs you likely have immediately ruled out a small jet and are talking well north of $10k.

It's my boss' dad's plane, so all we pay for is actual cost to operate (gas, pilots and per diem for the pilots). It's 6k for that round trip for a Cessna citation. Split it 6 ways so it makes it a grand a guy.

We looked to charter the same-ish plane when it was up in the air if it was available 2 years ago and I think the quote we got was 11k
