Worst Shot You Ever Had

I was in a situation where I needed to be +3 or better over the final 3 holes. I stepped up to 7th tee which is a short par 5. I could have hit 5 iron then 7 iron to lay up in front of the water if i wanted to be extra safe, or err on the left side where there was an adjacent wide open fairway. Instead, I took driver and blocked the ball about 30* right, OB. Poor decision compounded by one of the worst swings I've made in recent memory.

About 7 years ago I joined a amateur tour in Chicago and the first event was in early May. It was cold and damp but i was feeling pretty good because I had a nice range session.

When it was our turn to tee off the tour director suddenly announced in front of about 40 people "Now on the tee, Tom R". I was never so nervous in my life and I dribbled

my drive about 25 yards down the cart path into a huge bush. I found a ball in the bush and played only to learn later I played the wrong ball. worst start ever!

150 or so over a lake approach shot from the fairway to an elevated green. Pull out my 8 iron and proceed to skull one about a foot off the ground. Skipped in the water twice and ran up on bank about 10 feet short of the green. At least it ended up on dry land but it was ugly to watch. The best part was the guy I was playing with just watched in awe and proceeded to give me the sarcastic clapping of his hands.

Too many bad shots to count but... the most painful. Hitting into a head wind I decided to play a low power fade off the tee (typically a reliable shot for me). For some reason my buddy had parked the cart about 40 yards and left in front of the tee box we were playing (I'm a righty). I catch my drive right out of the middle and it screams into his bag on the back of the cart and we see a club head pop off and fall on the cart path. The ball went straight left into the desert.

At first it seemed funny and we were both guffawing. I tee up another one and play the same shot missing the cart by about 5 yards and ending up center cut in the fairway. Turned out I had decapitated his Ping G10 graphite shafted 8I right at the hosel. Guess what club he needed on his approach that hole?

I offered to pay for the repair but he refused, that's what made it painful. He ended up sending it to Ping so I don't think it was cheap.

Probably not the worst but the most embarrassing shot I hit was in late 1980s when I was a delusional 2 handicap that didn't travel well who had decided to try US Amateur qualifying, I was paired with Danny Yates, who qualified & went to the final that year before getting boat raced by Eric Meeks, & a D1 college player whose name I can't remember. I was on my way to 82-83 & already well aware that I was in way over my head when we got to a par 3 over water. I skulled a 5-iron that took three skips & hopped up on the green. I wanted to find a hole to crawl into. Would have been less embarrassing if it had just gone in the dang water.

Senior in HS playing in the Fall Four Ball with my Dad. Get on the first tee early morning after HS football game the night before and stiff and sore as he!!. Couldn't hardly get out of bed that morning but already committed to playing with my Dad so had to go. Got there just in time for our tee time. Step up to tee, try taking a few practice swings which was painful to say the least. Anyway, missed the face completely, hit it off the toe (persimmon head) somehow. It went maybe 20 yds. forward and about 80 yards right, over the next fairway, over the next rough, and straight into the pond in front of the 18th green. Looked like someone had taken a wedge out and aimed 90 degrees right and hit it over the trees. Was a 1 cap at the time and of course several groups watching the whole thing. Wanted to crawl under a rock. Still play there quite frequently and still don't see how that was in anyway possible!

I was but a mere witness. We were 13 years old that Summer.

Every Summer we spent a couple months camping near Cultas Lake in British Columbia There was a par3 course near by that would host a juniors tournament every friday where you could play 9 and get lunch for $10. It was popular enough to draw 50-60 kids every time.

I had some friends over to play who were not golfers (not that any of us were). We drew as the first group out. The tournament director would make all the kids hang around the first tee/putting green and draw numbers. So there was probably more than 50 people watching. My friend was so nervous that the club slipped from his hand during the follow through It sailed over a bush and over the restaurant patio to land on the clubhouse roof where it preceded to slide down and come crashing into a table full of people eating lunch. You could hear the screaming and breaking glass a mile away.

My friend basically melted into the shrubs out of terrified

In vegas 2007 at a course with my aunts husband... par3 maybe 170? Now vegas has a very high rabbit population for whatever reason... yeah i think you know where this is going... tee up the ball...btw i sucked back then... whack... low burner. Thump... a really meaty low toned thump. We look at each other. Wtf was that? Walk 20 yards. Rabit on his side twitching with a golf ball stuck in him while his whole family sat around watching. Good job me.
