Methods for adding a sight dot.

Putters Luck

Recommended Posts

Yes.

Take a punch and make a mark, then find an appropriate size drill bit, start small if unsure and you can always go bigger. Drill a hole and add a drip of paint.

The key is finding the right spot. hold the putter between two finger fingers and tap the face till you find the sweet spot. Make a mark with a sharpie first to make sure you found the sweet spot.

I've done it with an awl and drill as described above before with good luck. That said, the hole punch + electrical tape idea is pretty excellent.

Has anyone added a DIY sight dot to a personal putter?

Yes....what type of putter, and what type of "sight alignment aid" are you thinking of?

And, how/why do you have the name "shamrock sticks"????

That's brilliant! :) .

There was no thought given to the name barr the fact that i'm Irish and like golf sticks! ;)

If you're not sure if you want something permanent use white electrical tape with a revolving hole punch.

Brilliant!!

I'm going to go with the electrical tape to see how she looks. Thanks for the advice. I'll update when completed.

I put a sight dot on my Scotty putters using a sharpie to mark the sweet spot and found it works great. My thinking was that I could drill a permanent mark and fill it with paint if happy with it or easily remove it with spirits or rubbing compound without leaving any mark if I didn't. I redo the mark with the sharpie every few months when it starts to wear off. I have yet to made it permanent but may do so soon.

I just added one to my Ping Sigma G Piper 3. It was the most terrifying club mod I've ever done because I was doing it freehand. I would not recommend doing it the way I did it, next time I'll call a buddy with a drill press.

Turned out the way I wanted it, but halfway through I was pretty sure I was completely ruining a 2 week old putter. I ended up with a tiny bit of chatter around the edges of the dot, but since I'm planning to game this for a while the imperfections will become unnoticeable over time as other scratches and dings appear. I wanted a dot that was a little larger than most alignment dots and it looks perfect to me at address so I'm happy.

I don't actually remember... I think I taped it off and used a very small drill bit to drill a pilot hole, then a stepped bit to widen it. Then just paint filled it.

But I'd definitely recommend finding someone with a drill press. It was terrifying trying to do it freehand.

Do you cover up the site line if there is one, and if you do, how do you cover it

Obviously not a permanent fix, but I’ve been using this as a training method to ensure my eyes are over the ball. I put a small piece of scotch tape in on the top line, and used a black sharpie to make a small sight dot.
If the sight line on the flange and the dot line up, my eyes are over it. If the dot is slightly higher than the line on the flange, my eyes are slightly inside of the ball. If I want to take it off, just pull off the tape.
