let's do it! Big group from Louisville, KY on our end. I'm pumped hopefully everything is open and "normal" really don't want to be drinking in our hotel rooms. Want that fire place fired up and be able to enjoy sitting around chatting about the rounds.

This is all of our first time so we're absolutely pumped up. Some of the guys are getting in a day before and playing Eugene Country Club. My home airport is basically defunct after this covid crap so i'm having to burn a whole day just to get out there in time.

 

I just sent a screenshot of that little prop bet to my guys (one is about a big of a gambler as you will meet, he'd bet on how fast the food comes out)

My Ireland trip with sons (high school and college grads this year) in late July was cancelled, so I just pivoted and called Bandon for availability in July. Booked a great trip for us. Tues-Friday July 14-17, playing:

Tues: Old Mac and Preserve

Wed: Sheep Ranch and Trails

Thurs: Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes

Friday: Pacific Dunes

They have good rates for children 22 and under playing with an adult so while this will be mega $$, it at least isn't horribly $$$. Can't wait!

Bandon is a 4.5 hr drive for me so why have I only been there once in the last 4 years? Sheep Ranch here I come!!

Closest resort type setup for our group is Prairie Club which is 4.5-5.0 hour drive and trust me NOT EVEN close to same scenic drive you get in Oregon....... and I am talking taking the highway from Portland to Bandon LOL We are going to PC this weekend and already dreading drive. If I was that close to Bandon it would be hard not to go once a year if not twice a year since you can time the weather vs rate throughout the season.

I'd much rather go to Bandon with a group of good friends than be a loner ... although even that option is tempting as I'll play with anyone at least once :) ... key issue / obstacle is lining up golf buddy schedules around family obligations, kid's sports, work travel, etc. Perhaps there should be a GolfWRX Bandon trip sign-up sheet!! Is there one already? If not, how do we set one up? Let's do this!!

 

p.s. one key reason for 4 yr gap since last Bandon trip... I had surgery Dec'2017 to remove bone chips, and repair labrum and rotator cuff from my left shoulder. Took me half a year before I could take full swings, followed by 6 months of tendinitis that I wouldn't wish on anyone. Now after 2019 season and this year's early start I feel ready to go!!

@Rebbutt I have to agree with this.
Because my kids are older I have a lot more flexibility than others and have gone on many trips solo. Chances are if you are headed out to a premier golf destination like Bandon you're going to end up playing with people that you'll get along with.

Supposed to be sustained 20+, gusting to high 30's, low 40's. That's ... not easy.

 

I will be lucky to break 80 if there's no wind. Can barely swing. Just little bunty half-swings right now due to my back. Will just enjoy the time with my son. It's a shame that the two big trips we have taken "Pinehurst and now Bandon," my back has been in bad shape for both, and the weather at Pinehurst was just awful.

Arg. Been there. Hope it holds up for you. The good news is that bunty half swings can actually get you around there pretty well. I played a round at BD in a Howler with a guy who hit nothing but knock-down 4-irons all day and he shot 78. Lesson learned.

 

And while the wind will bring its own challenges, at least you won't have to deal with it in a driving rain, seemingly.

To be honest, bunty half swings can get you around all courses there very well. There are very few forced carries and in that wind the ground is more reliable than the air.

this brings back memories of me and my family making the similar drive from california to bandon. we played bandon dunes. i absolutely enjoyed their accommodations and the golf course. i broke my first 90 on that course. awesome day!

i bought a roof top tent for my land cruiser so I will be planning a cross country trip to bandon with the entire family, via grand canyon and moab, in the near future, with covid or not. bandon is magical. it's like the disney of golf.

To all your experienced Bandon visitors, will Summer be the best time of a year in Bandon, or maybe some other season? Ive been thinking this for too long. And can't get my buddies' schedule work in a right way. SO I decide to go solo.
