The Best Total Package Driver Ever??

Rewster66

Recommended Posts

OG Ping Rapture!!

I currently own an Taylormade M5 & M6.., Callaway Rogue.., Callaway Epic Flash.., Wishon 919.., and have owned or hit pretty much every driver produced in the last 7-8 years..., BUT I have come to the conclusion that I have never hit a driver that had a more satisfying combination of looks, sound, feel and total performance than the OG Ping Rapture. I'm not saying it is the best just that for me it is the best TOTAL package that I have ever had in the bag.

What are your thoughts??

God Bless..., Ray

For me, was the r510tp with the TP graphics 661x ( not as common as the 757, yet was still a stock option) , so dependable for me that still keep a “few”? similarly spec’d backups.

R580XD TP with a fuji rombax shaft for me...close second would be the r510 TP with the fuji 757 speeder. I’d love to go back to Taylor made, and need to try the SIM, but for whatever reason I just haven’t found a TM driver I liked since those two. For me they were the perfect combination of sound, feel, looks, distance and forgiveness...

Imma have to say the original Big Bertha. It was a total game changer and everyone I knew back in the day had one in their bag, myself included obviously. It was the first I can recall to break the mold of "persimmon shaped metal wood" and go with a more aerodynamic shape making it extraordinarily easier to hit straight, higher and longer than anything else of its time.

I played a round last year with a fella who's modern bag had recently been stolen out of his car so he was playing his OLD clubs; among them an OG Bertha. Dude was striping it and I was finally like "Dude, mind if I hit that?" and proceeded to smoke it.

Obviously wouldn't give up my TS4 for one - even with my current nostalgia setup - but man, that thing still performs.

I agree about the original big Bertha, and really that entire few year stretch they had between the Big Bertha-Great Big Bertha-Biggest Big Bertha. I had a 6* and a 7* Biggest Big Bertha with the old burgandy grafalloy prolite 35 shaft in them and hit them to spots on the course then that I can’t get to now with today’s technology.

Back in the day I loved my 983K with an Aldila NV 85X. Was a monster, and compared to the drivers of that time, relatively forgiving.

G410 Plus it's a forgiving bomber. I'm sure if i tested the SIM it would be comparable but not spending the money for marginal benefits.

Going back a ways the Cobra 414 Comp w/Graffaloy Comp NT shaft was a pure winner. Looong, straight and forgiving enough. Had a McGregor NVG2 Tour that wasn't just sneaky long, it was just plain f'ing long but forget what shaft I had in it.

I haven't seen it in person or hit it yet... but I'm pretty excited about the limited edition Cobra that is coming out... Ventus Blue Shaft, great head with awesome graphics... It checks all the boxes for me (assuming it actually performs)

Anyone who doesn't answer the question with the driver that's currently in their bag needs to rethink their answer or what their playing. Why would you not be using a driver that you believe is the total package?
