Scotty Cameron Newport Tour-The Art of Putting -David Duval Inspired w/ Sound Slot and Stamps w/ COA

I loved writing that title haha. So today I scooped an almost flawless Scotty Newport which came with a Certificate of Authenticity from an old collector guy who is selling off some items. It's an absolute beauty. On the Scotty site under the 1999's , there is some info saying around 5000 produced. But this has the T tour stamp, as well as DDSM stamp. So I'm wondering if this is a special one that isn't included in the 5000 or what? Anyone know? Also, what does SM stand for? The DD is obviously David Duval but the SM i'm not sure... the original owner thought Scotty Master and I also heard it's maybe Special Made. I'm not sure if this is a long term keeper or if i'll sell it. Pretty sure I can make some $ as I got it for a decent price. Or should I just game the damn thing? What do you think?

That's not a "Inspired by David Duval" that is listed in the website, that putter was actually made for David Duval.

Yeah so since posting I noticed the "Made For..." very different than "Inspired by..." so i'm VERY VERY stoked to have acquired it. If you need me i'll be here staring at it.

I normally encourage people to play putters. But that's one that I would keep as a wall hanger. Or sell it.

So I had a response back from Scotty Cameron and they confirmed it WAS definitely made FOR David Duval and not inspired by. The DD stands for David Duval as expected but they said they did not know what the SM stood for. I pushed back a bit and asked if they could find out by asking the man himself which would take 8 seconds in an email with a photo. They responded we can have Scotty take a look at it if you'd like to fill out ANOTHER work order and send it back in, and that they wouldn't do anything to the COA I already have, but he would look at it.

I basically LOL'd back a response and said how incredibly dumb I thought that suggestion was. As if i'm going to pay a few hundred more dollars (I'm in Canada so shipping back and forth etc. ) when they could send a frigging email. Anyway, pretty ridiculous but the mystery remains.

I'm going with David Duval Special Made.

Yup, cash grab for sure. Scotty could just look it up in the registry and conjure up whatever creative slogan he wanted.

Exactly. My words to the Scotty rep exactly were "Sounds like a cash grab to me and what a colossal waste of time and energy to get a putter from Canada to California and back to find out what SM means."

There's a very real possibility that Scotty Cameron wouldn't remember what the SM meant. It was 20 years ago. It might be that David Duval asked for the SM to be stamped with no explanation.

 

If you're really curious you could try to contact David Duval to see what it stands for. He likely knows better than Scotty Cameron.
