Lab golf lie angle balances the B.2 Blad differently, depending on if it is ordered with the Press grip, or the Garsen QUAD Tour standard type grip. So now that you have installed a conventional grip on what was balanced for a Press grip, your lie angle balance will be a bit off. But I think Sam has commented before that you would have to have VERY sensitive feel, to be able to tell the difference.

Awesome to hear about this experience! All of the adjustments you made are very common. That fact is, its a different thing and takes a minute to adjust. My favorite part of this review is how the feel of the putter lead you to find the center. Similar to a blade vs. cavity back iron, I actually feel that a less forgiving club can help improve your game more than a GI in some cases because it leads you where you need to be rather than compensating for where you are. I still prefer the mallet though I practice with the blade a lot just for the feedback. I found the same with the grip. I prefer my old lamkin on the blade. Regarding the visual, down the road you may want to try the mallet. Even though its center shafted, it doesn't play or set up that way because you can see the entire face on account of the onset head. Thanks so much for sticking with it and I look forward to hearing about some low rounds!!

Just received a Blad 2 with the LAGP shaft. Took a little time to adjust by experimenting with choking down on the grip. Not sure if this affects the lie angle balancing, but the results were good. (Guess that underscores how important it is to use LAB's fitting process.)

Still love my Df 2.1T. The lie angle balancing technology is the real deal. Plus, the people at LAB are great to work with.

If I'm thinking about the physics correctly, by choking down on your B2 you are essentially adding a bit of counter-balance. We'll let the labgolf guys answer about the lie angle balancing aspect of that.

Zeroing torque during the stroke is of course a main value proposition of the LAB Golf concept.

There is an aspect about torque and traditionally balanced putters that bothers me since a long time. Let me try to explain my point and let me know your opinion.

In traditionally balanced putters, torque is highest when acceleration is highest: at start of the take away and at downswing transition. There is more torque in a toe hang putter than a face balanced one, but all of them have some amount of torque during the stroke. My problem is that the common understanding of the effect of torque is wrong and wrong is also the widely accepted idea that a toe hang putter facilitate an arc stroke (and a face balanced a more straight stroke). The fact is that torque wants to close the face at take away (not open!) and open the face at transition (not close!). So the toe hang putter is not facilitating any arc, is the player that have to counter act the torque and actively open the face at take away and close it at transition, thus generating a more pronounced arc. A face balanced putter generates less torque and all these effect are reduced, thus allowing for less manipulation of the putter face. With LAB, no manipulation is needed at all, the face remains naturally in line with the arc in any moment of the stroke.

This is my rant. Please let me know.

That makes sense to me. Seeing a slow motion of a toe-hang putter and then a face balanced putter in the revealer would give more insight on this.

I was able to get out for practice with my 2.1 and 18 holes.

While the alignment is nice and knowing I am going sbst is reassuring I cannot lag with this. Additionally, I seem to struggle with faster greens. I'm all over the place. I broke 80 today for the first time and did not use my 2.1. But I used the 2.1 to putt an extra ball after holing out. Missing high everytime and blowing by the hole or coming up short. If I would have gamed the 2.1 I would have added 9 strokes or half a stroke per hole. I guess I just need to keep practicing or give up the 2.1 for awhile.

Really like my 2.1 and putted well but it was just so big. Not just when putting but in the bag. The head and cover takes up so much room. Went back to my old EXO 7S. I am putting better which I contribute to the 2.1. It helped smooth my stroke out but I wish they had a size in between the blade and the 2.1. I think that would be perfect.

or now that lockdown is over, just head up to a Reno and get a proper fitting and see if the blade works for me.

Finally got to physically hold a DF2.1 in my hands the other day, sadly it was a RH but it didn't stop me from taking a few putts with it because I wanted to see how it felt and I'm not bad putting opposite side. At address it wasn't too bad to look at honestly didn't really pay attention to much behind the shaft but the overall size that was kind of a small turn off for me. I think this is where the B.2 would appeal to me more, but would have to see how I feel with a true CS putter. Might just have to buy one or the other and test it out.

@labgolf Now I'm super confused... I changed out the putter grip. I have two 2.1's. One grip I have on the 2.1 (1.L) is installed with the hole in the backside of the putter grip which putt the vertical line on the grip facing outward (perpendicular to the putter head/parallel to the putter face. When I installed the new grip (Press 2 1.5) on the other 2.1, I installed it with the flat part of the grip on the back of the putter. Flat part sits in my right palm.
Confusion comes in because the "forward press" works differently when the grip is rotated differently. Is one installation right or wrong or does it just feel?

Unless you mounted it using Gorilla Glue, compressed air blown into the hole in the butt end makes removal a breeze. (If you have access to a compressor, that is)

Went back to the 2.1 today as I had to give it another try. Putted great. What I have found is that I have to stand a little different than I do with the EXO. Not talking about where the ball is in relation to forward/back in the stance (the 2.1 is farther up in the stance btw) but rather how my arms hang, how I get my eyes behind so I can see the line. Once I got back to a comfortable stance and space I started seeing the line much better. Worked great and made everything today. Even the ones I missed were really close. Let me be really aggressive on putts as I was not afraid of the comeback. Got a little too cocky on one later in the round and had a 6-7 footer back for par. Calmly made the putt.

That's a great feeling when you are calmly rolling in the 6 or 7 foot comeback for par !

  • 2 weeks later...

Yes sir. I joined a new club and the greens have more undulation than I'm used to and struggled at first controlling my pace with really fast downhill putts. I was blowing it by the hole more than I'd like. Part of the problem on those for me is the grip. I prefer a smaller grip than I have on the B.2 and lose some feel on those pesky, very fast summertime putts. I don't think it would be an issue for those who are used to larger grips.

On really fast greens I like a lighter overall putter and have been rotating to help with speed control. But directional control is much better with the B.2.
