Modern Replacement for Graphite Design Pershing

Recommended Posts

So here's the story. I've been playing my '08 Burner Tp driver 10.5* w/ Graphite Design Pershing 65X shaft since high school. I love this driver, but the thought of upgrading upon graduation has me salivating. Over this time I've gotten much stronger though I am still not a big dude, about 5'9 170 lbs, average swing speed about 112 with a really late release. Anyone know the specs on this shaft in terms of launch/spin and what some modern replacements I should consider.

Currently my best drives are towering bombs with a ball flight similar to that of Jason Day (or so is my grandeur of thought). After a thorough search of this forum I've pieced this list together of some options.

- Aldila Rogue silver

- Aldila Tour Green (I did have the NV in HS in an R7 Quad)

- GD AD DI

- GD AD BB

- Matrix Black Tie

- Matrix White Tie

Am I even on the right track?

Thanks in advance for the help guys

I'm very familiar with the GD Pershing shaft. I had the 75-X in Ping G5 3 and 5 woods years ago.

If I were you, I'd stick with Mitsubishi shafts or Graphite Design. They're more expensive but night/day above the competition. Aldila shafts are too inconsistent for my taste...unless you spend $700 on the Tour Limited versions. Aldila Rogue Silver 60 & 70 produced some of the worst dispersion I've had in a driver. -*EDIT (Tempo might have something to do with this...if you have a smooth tempo, I know guys who hit the Rogue Silver very consistently, unfortunately, my tempo is anything but smooth, so not a good fit for me)

My SS is slightly slower than yours...108mph.

I really like the D+ 70 Whiteboard and the GD AD DI. GD has some newer AD series out too that look really good.

As far as Matrix goes, the Black Tie has yet to really impress me. I've limited experience with it, but my results with the Black Tie in the Cobra F6+ and King LTD have been lackluster.

Hope that helps but I'm sure others will chime in with their experiences. Good luck on the hunt

Thanks for the insight. I agree that GD is probably the way I'll go. Just put the others up there for discussion's sake. From what my feel and eyes tell me the Pershing is a low/mid launch shaft. Is that true?

  • 4 years later...

I know this is an old post and an old shaft, but came across a couple of these shafts on ebay for a good price. Looking for a 5 wood shaft in my epic flash sz. Have a high ss, 120+. Looking for a stable driver, to help take away left side and minimize the hook. Reviews seem great on this pershing, which I found an 85g TX, could be a good fit. Being many years old, still think this could be a great option for this, or should I stick with a modern day shaft? Any feedback/insight/recommendations with this shaft or modern shafts. Was currently looking at the evenflow black shafts. Currently gaming at tensei AV blue 75x and like the feel, but just isn't stable enough and consistent draw/hook.

Found a pershing 85tx and a gd purple ice 85tx shaft. Any thoughts/recommendations on which would likely be a better option? From what I've read, seems like the pershing is going be a little firmer, particularly in the tip?
