Golfin Quincy Ma

I am coming to Quincy next week. I will be in town the 16th and would like to play on the 17th or 18th. I looked on the net and saw The President Club and Granite Hill courses. I do not know the area so any help hooking up with someone up that way would be greatly appreciated. Any info on where to play would be great. I am not a long ball hitter but I do play to a 7 hdcp.

I'll disagree with the comment around Granite Links. I'd actually play Presidents, cheaper and more fun (but in much worse condition than Granite Links). Granite Links has great views, a great bar, but playing it only 1 time can be maddening - you'll have no idea where the ball is going as there are so many blind shots.

The best options would be to drive 30 miles south and hit up any of the Plymouth, MA public options. Waverly Oaks, Pinehills (2 courses), Crosswinds. With COVID right now, traffic won't be too bad. You can see a Reese Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Hudson/Fry, and Brian Silva design all essentially bordering each other

If you want to try something unique (and "woke"), drive to Marion, MA and play Marion golf course. $13 tee times, 9 holes, really unique spot

I'd second what mediocreMAgolfer said about the options in Plymouth. Waverly Oaks and the Pinehills courses are great. I'm also partial to Pembroke Country Club, it's closer to Quincy and the course is really in great shape now, but at the same time it's not of the same caliber as the Plymouth options.

Granite Links is a higher-end option but personally I couldn't stand all of the blind shots when I played it. You'll spend a lot of time driving up to see where exactly you need to hit your drive and checking if the group in front of you has cleared. Haven't played President's so I can't speak to that course. Good luck and hope you have nice weather and a fun round wherever you choose.

I agree with going to Plymouth, any of the 3 (Crosswinds, Pine Hills or Waverly Oaks). Presidents is a close to the city municipal that can be in "great shape" but you are coming right before Mass Am qualifier so I doubt it will be perfect as they will try and speed up the greens for the 22nd. Granite links good for the views, I also live about 5 minutes away and have only played there in tournaments. If you are restricted closer to the city try and get on at George Wright.

I like Pembroke. Play there often. GL is a must play once but only "on a nice, clear day at a discount rate". Played once, had a good time, great views, but there are a ton of blind shots. In Plymouth area (About 30 minute south of Quincy) Pine Hills are good courses, always great conditions, but pricey. I'd look for a GolfNow deal. Waverly Oaks is a great play, but also look for a GolfNow deal. I don't know what the fascination is with Crosswinds, can't stand the place.

Braintree Muni is an okay course as is South Shore CC in Hingham. Not the same experience as PineHills, Waverly or GL, but about 1/2 of the price. I think the hidden gem is Pembroke, not quite the Waverly, Pine Hills, GL experience, but about 1/2 to 2/3 the cost and not that far from Quincy. George Wright in Boston would be a great option if you can get on.

I don't care much for Granite Links either...too many blind shots. Plymouth is great if you an get down there. George Wright and Franklin Park are Boston's two muni's and were both designed by Donald Ross. South Shore in Hingham is nice and Braintree isn't too bad either. If you play President's, wear a hard hat as a lot of the fairways are contiguous to one another.

Well I did play Granite Links. I liked the course a lot. The place was packed all day. I drove over Tuesday evening to check it out. The driving range was full of young people hitting balls and having a drink on a Tuesday night. I liked the course, played Granite - Quincy. Lots of blind shots on Quincy as someone said. Played the Blue tees and shot 38-36. Yardages don't mean much on this course as the uphill and downhill slopes played into everything. Just a guess on the yardage for sure. The par 3's were hard to figure out because of the slope. #9 on Granite was maybe one of the smallest targets with a 9i I have ever played. Still made a par. The views of the city were great. Thanks to you guys for helping finding the place.
