SIM driver back weight

NO, before we add hotmelt, both weight needed and position of this weight must be found by trial and error using lead tape.

Lets say we found that 10 grams added toe side in the front was weight and position.

When adding hot melt, we must now find the head position where hotmelt would find its location by "dripping directly to the right spot.

since we want it LOW, we must held the head with sole down, and crown up.

since we want it forward, we must held the head with face down, but not so much so face becomes address, we still want it on the sole, not the face....so moderate face down.

We want it toe side or against fade bias, so to side most be the lowest

THIS HEAD must be hold so face and to side is the lost point, and hosel heel side the highest point, and remember, we want it on the sole, NOT the face

Put the hotmelt gun into the access port, and make sure the planned location is STRAIT DOWN from the needle tip of your hotmelt gun..

Heads where ALL parts is Titanium should be preheated on the location area for hot melt, it makes its more "self distributing" and the effect as sound dampening becomes larger, the larger of a area the hotmelt covers. For FUSION Heads, where some parts is Titanium, other parts Carbonfiber, we should NOT Preheat the head, with out following the same rules as for pull of shafts from fixed hosel Fushion heads, that means cooling gel on the carbonfiber areas and nearby titanium surfaces plus wet towels. Use a SMALL torch on max heat for a short time, concentrated to the location area (move it enough not to make burn marks).

Be ready with a heat proof glove and the hotmelt gun, and the position the head shall be in when hotmelt is added...work fast here, and KNOW your hotmelt gun for trigger vs weight....be prepared to make a sticky mess....if you are pre-paired, you want panic when the sticky mess is a fact....check head weight, add more if needed..dont try to add all at once, its so hard to remove if we overdo it.

Both pure Titanium and Fushion Heads should get a short "re-Heat" on the hot melt location (to make it more fluid to spread out a second time, same rules again, Fushion heads only if we use Cool Gel and wet towels to protect the carbonfiber parts. If part of the SOLE is Carbonfiber - ABSOLUTELY NO PRE OR REHEATING, we can only do that on heads where the Crown is the only Carbonfiber part of the head.

So if we wanna play a Max driver at 45 or 45.25 what gram back weight do we need to buy? Looks like Billy Bob’s offers a 17g and a 19g

Most weights are indeed measured with the screw. The 15g slidable weights in the 2016 Taylormade M1 fairway for example are comprised of a 12g weight, a 2g pad underneath, and a 1g screw. So 17.5g for an advertised 19g weight makes sense.

Thats correct, just like epoxy and ferrule is part of head weight, and grip tape is part of grip weight, we have to include all components, and cant attach a screw weight without the bolt and spacer.

Correct, the weight is WITH screw. I ordered the 19g from Billy bob and it is 17 without the screw, 19 with the screw. The stock weight on my MAX was 17 with the screw.

Interesting reading because I got my sim max on Thursday .. 46.25” with an AD DI 6x .. and even with two massive strips of the wide and heavy lead tape the head still feels light and I am having trouble tracking the head a little throughout the swing

looking at this thread it seems I may need to hot melt ... this head is 195g and I think the 400LST is 208g. Explains the feel difference

I’m at my cottage so no access to my scale and a swingweight measure. Need to sort out next week with my fitter

I will say when nutted this driver is VERY Long .. but need to hit the centre more often

Adding more weight to the back of a driver always increases MOI, but has nothing to do with COR which is a measurement related to energy transfer between face and ball.

Just for the record, but head weight IS part of actual PTR....even if its very small numbers. (i know the question was COR but more ball speed or higher PTR is really the same as higher COR for the player)

If we for the sake of example set SPIN LOFT to 7.0* (very low to maximize PTR), and change head weight from 197 grams to 212 grams (plus 15 grams or 7.6%), we move the theoretical PTR from 1.473 to 1.493...or like we are used to see this values, smash factor moves from 1.47 to 1.49 so those 15 grams gave the 100 mph player 2 mph more ball speed.

So we can say that 3.8% / 7.5 grams added head weight on a driver adds 1 mph ball speed or 2 yards more carry...........on the paper

(from my old notes where i had a excel sheet made to judge the effect of hot melt when going shorter and 15 grams added was kind of a average amount)
