This is a wonderful thread. So much testing and feedback. I am curious on the elevate shafts. Was contemplating a Cobra SZ 4 iron as a DI with the Elevate shaft. You seem to like them. Are you normally a low spin iron player?

The Mavrik Pro irons came in this week, with elevate 105s shafts, this is just a good fit for me all around.

first day out started double, bogey, shot 75, then hit some great iron shots in a 2 man yesterday.

i am a lower spin guy, just been hitting the players irons with heavier shafts too low, not enough spin. I don’t hit it long.

the stronger lofts paired with a higher launching shaft seems a good combo, stopped the ball much quicker on the greens.

the elevate shafts are awesome, have the 105 in Mavrik, tour version in my 737v. They feel fantastic, the 105 offers a little higher launch, but no ballooning at all.

My HMP set with modus 105 shipped out yesterday (felt uneasy not having a set of Mizuno irons in the house). I will be testing head to head against Mavrik for my GI set. They will need to be good to beat the Mavrik Pro out.

this is my first callaway iron since X14 pro, years back. They feel nice for not being forged, and the biggest key, distance seems very consistent.

I have similar excellent tastes in irons as I have a set of the 919 Tours with the LZ and have been playing the MP 20 MMCs for 5 months or so. The Modus 120s are great but I am curious about the 100-105 gram shafts as I play 1/2 inch over. Thanks for the feedback. I was contemplating a Cobra SZ 4 iron as a 19 degree driving iron. The Elevate is in the frame. Will be interested to see your results with the HMB and Modus. Should be a good combo.

No, frustrated about the color I wanted not releasing, also worried on some reviews, but would try if the released gray and blue in wide.

i got my puma caged of Amazon for $70-$80-$90 respectively 2 disc, one lace, love them, not even wearing roshe Tour, which has been my shoe.

Never tried Adidas golf shoes.

i really like the puma caged, and not a puma guy, first pair, just fit right, 1/2 size down from RGT, didn’t even need the wide.

i have 2 pair of True OG that I like and a pair of air zoom victory pro that I like.

Was +3 through 4 last night, played the last 14 at 1 under for 72, love these irons. I was never consistent enough working the ball anyway, just hit em straight.

top of bag back to what it was with GBB and F9 tours . I do go back and forth between a 20• hybrid and a 7w, depending on wind and course.

put the Toulon in recently., putting great.

Tough track on the books for this morning, can’t wait to get out there.

Such a basket case.....

I have a poor stretch that involved having the shanks, and felt like I forgot how to play, so sold irons, bought others, that doesn’t solve anything.

i am a feel player, so can get lost a bit when things go sideways, not always sure how to fix it. I have been hitting the ball better, but having issues with turf interaction with wider soles now.

i put the 737v back in yesterday, and all seems back to normal

Correct, but got in my head, even knowing it was a swing flaw. I finally noticed the right elbow was flying all over the place, but is was only iron play , driver and short game have been good this year.

i put them back for Wednesday night, and it was like love all over again, hit way more greens, but of course made nothing on the green, subtle reminder it does not all come together as much as I would like.

i am sticking with my current set up for the season, get comfortable, know if I am swinging solid, everything does what I need.

Shocker, it’s not the arrow, yet again.

I went back to the Mavrik Pro, playing pretty well now. I finished 9th in my first Club Championship last weekend, and that was playing the par 5’s at +6 for the weekend.

i really like these irons after getting used to them, elevate shafts are great.

mavrik 7w and Odyssey SL Rossie are for sale now, can’t stop hitting the 7w left, so hybrid back in, top of bag back to what it was last year.

The one thing that has been really good lately is the putter, had 12 putts on from 9 last night for 34, but shot 40 on back, then 27 putts tonight and a 71. The Portland is maybe my favorite putter ever, so reached out and have a black custom that was built yesterday and shipping out tomorrow.

I almost hope the new JPX coming out look terrible, tired of buying irons....lol

Iron update?

Yes, just came in today.921F 6-G (ordered GW separate, en route). LZ blackout with Lamkin crossline. GBB with Ventus black just has not been beat, F9 Tour fairways same.  I dumped the 7w for a F9 4H, absolutely love it. I was tracking my success rate with 5i, just not very good, did a custom order for a F9 5H with smoke hybrid shaft, only missed one green with it so far, maybe the best move I have made recently to actually improve scoring. I also got a satin black Toulon Portland garage, amazing putter. I ordered the 921 blind, can’t wait to hit them today.

That putter is beautiful!  Great shape as well.  I really enjoyed my Las Vegas, but felt the head shape was a little too big for me.  I might have to give the Portland a go.

  • 1 year later...

So, yeah, been a minute since I posted in here……

Life has definitely thrown a few curves, covid, wife lost job, got new job. I returned from my annual California golf trip end of October, back to work 11/1, and got laid off after 24 years. They paid us through 11/30, then I have a year of severance that kicks in 1/1, and 20 years experience in high stress IT work. Enjoying a little time off over the holidays, then should have no problem finding something and double dipping with severance pay.

Enough of story time, on to golf…..

I played more rounds this season than ever in my life, live in a small town with a solid little 9 hole country club, bought a new 2021 EZ GO cart. I live a couple minutes away, can drive carts in town, so just drive cart to and from course. I am not sure how many rounds, but went through 2000 tees thi season. I break 70% off the tee, but a ton of rounds, guessing upwards of 200. Great group of guys, about 20 that play at least somewhat regularly, even have a resident club repair guy.

Most of bag is different now, but really digging current set up, posted a 69/35 yesterday and all time best 67 last week (not a real difficult course),but the convenience and group of friends trump all else at the moment.

I had a bias against Titleist for some reason, always seemed elitist, but decided to open a bit and try something new, got T200 early September and fell in love instantly, best turf interaction in a set of irons ever, then put a TSi3 @ 46.5 with 6 grams of neutral melt and a +4 weight, finally kicked the 2016 GBB out, amazing driver, love the MD5, garage Toulon Portland may never leave the bag, Radspeed fairways and F9 hybrids, love the rails. Portland has 40g plate, 386g, like things heavy.

My swing has just kinda developed a bit ( never had a lesson in my life), now hitting a tiny draw with most clubs, but very rarely turn anything too much, driver and 3w are more just straight, baby fade. Playing best golf of my life at 50, and loving it. Looks like 2 more days in the season here in Iowa, can’t believe we are still playing, near 60 today and tomorrow then she drops and probably won’t warm up again.

Current set up, TSi3 driver at 46.5 with 6g hot melt, and a +4 weight, RDX smoke black, Radspeed 3/5, RDX smoke black, F9 4/5H, T200 6-G, LZ 5.5, MD5 52/56, and custom garage Portland at 386g, still with TP5X, but dabbling with pro V now.

Jumped on some new apparel also, public rec workday pants and True shoes, stocked up, loving the lightweight and comfort of both.

sorry for ramble, a few pics…..

Warrick hope all is well bud and sorry to hear about the job but it's certainly been going around.  Love the new wheels, i'm actually looking at carts myself just to ride through my neighborhood and have driveway beers haha.  My course is too far to drive it there so I"m envious you are close enough to do that.  That Tsi3 must be a cannon when you connect

I played the F9 tour 3 and 5 still have them, that 3 wood was a bit small off the tee, but just sent them out to my folks place in California for when I go out.

Radspeed inspire a bit more confidence without being as big as some of the newer stuff, will not even look to replace next season, really like them, 5 wood is a favorite of mine, great out of fairway bunker on par 5.

Ok, back to dabbling again, started new job at Humana 5/9, still work at home and pays more, better, cheaper insurance, still almost 6 months of severance pay coming, so double dipping for a bit, woo-hoo!!!!

Always had interest in trying GD shafts, have a black AD DI 6s in the TSi3 now, what an amazing feeling shaft, the tad softer mid section reminds me of my LZ iron shafts, can feel it load. Probably hitting it farther that any previous set up.

I was trying to find a AD DI 7s for 3w, but even the used ones without the proper adapter were over $200, so just snagged the TGW deal on a TSi3 3w with the no up charge AD DI, be here in a few weeks.

I also moved over to Radspeed hybrids. Irons, wedges and putter just work, nothing to look for.

I mean, sure love to try a set of New Miura, but not sure about dumping that on irons.

I added some new wheels and a custom seat to the cart also.

Happy to be alive, healthy and employed again.

Shout out to all have given and served this country.
