PXG 0211 irons - what do you think?

I don’t get it? PXG puts out a premium product at a exorbitant rate, ok I see where critics have footing. Then put out fantastic iron at a lower price THEN lower it to $99 a stick and they still get bagged on?!

I’ve played AP2s, i200, P790, Honma TWX and the 0211s, for my swing and feel, are the best of the bunch and I got them for less than what I paid for the others.

I can see where they might not be a fit for everyone, but anybody who says the 0211s are overpriced is just plain ignorant.

I'll add to that. These are the same people who complain about the prices of golf equipment, the price of golf balls going to $5 each, (CDN) drivers going from $300 to $400 to $600, so a supposed (haven't tried it yet) quality product comes out at a favourable reduced price (we still don't know the reason, do we?) and instead of supporting that they just complain again.

I have Google searched for hours and there is very little on the internet on these. This thread, the thread on sandtrap that says to go to this thread, a few video reviews from the average golfer, who will be a PXG fanboy for life after getting a trip from Parsons to Scottsdale, so he is now biased. And, is there anything else?

edit:found this one too: probably posted further back but not going to check :)

edit II: I really like this guys honesty: "I can't tell if this is forged or cast, so how would the public know? It is like putting a ProV1 or a TP5 down blind; I couldn't tell the difference, and this is supposed to be my job to tell the difference"

He sure hits a sweet golf shot though :)

Another round with the 0211's, still getting use to them. Hitting them more in the middle after the lie adjustment, but something is still a little "off" compared to my ie1's. Maybe the shaft? elevate 95 stiff in the 0211's, and modus 105 stiff in the ie1's. pxg did not have the modus 105 stiff in stock at the time. or I would of ordered them with it. So, I bought a modus 105 shaft to put in the 0211 7 iron to see if it makes a difference. Installing it this week. That way, a more apples to apples comparison to see which set goes in the bag.

It might be because the shafts get lighter as the iron gets shorter. Pings use constant weight taper tip shafts, PXG uses parallel tip Elevate shafts.

I’m not getting along with my set either. I’m not sure if it’s the shaft weight or not, but I don’t think I want to reshaft the whole set.

So far I actually am liking the 0211's. I think that where these irons shine is feel, consistency and a fair dose of forgiveness. The one thing I am finding, is that if you strike the ball low on the fact at all.. they are not going to get the ball up very high. For this reason alone I did swap out the 0211 4 iron for a ZU85. The ZU85 gets the ball up much easier from any lie. That said, other than that one thing, I do find the 0211's to feel great and be forgiving and straight. Overall I'd say the distance I am getting is acceptable but not necessarily outstanding. The dispersion however is pretty tight for me both left to right and front to back. So while I would not say that exceptional length is a really a strong suit for them, consistency is. As said too they are pretty forgiving across the face so slight misses towards the heel or toe are not punished very much at all. Swing wise I did have to make a bit of adjustment at first with the 0211's which was basically to feel like I was swinging out much more than usual. I do not know whether to attribute this to the heads, the swing weight or the i95 shafts but it was something that I took notice of for sure.

Completely agree. I was not swinging well with them for the first few rounds. I put them on my scale, C9.

I put some lead tape on them, but I just am not hitting them well.

During my fitting I tried a number of lightweight shafts. The fitter thought that the Elevate 95 stiffs gave me the best numbers. I liked the regular flex better for the feel. I think they also gave me a higher launch and peak height. I’m at 80-82 for 7 iron swing speed.

I don’t know what mine weigh but their lighter than the Maltby DBMs in the backup bag. I like the lighter weight and can still feel the head in my swing. I’ve been working on smoothing out my tempo so lighter has been better for me.

I recall that my set of 0211 irons from PXG with TT Elevate 95 stiff shafts came in right at D1. Now, I had requested D2 if possible, and they did not achieve that (or perhaps even try to achieve that). I think it is pretty safe to say that especially with the 0211 irons (which don’t have the little PXG weights), PXG will not do much to adjust SW. But at least with certain sub-100g shafts, they do achieve the stock D1 SW. YMMV.

And all of that said, I have lead tape on some Callaway, Ping and TM irons in my stable, so fine-tuning SW after purchase is not just a PXG thing.

I’ve posted this before but my 0211’s from spring/summer 2019 all spec out at D0-D1 with the MMT 80 stiff flex and standard Tour Velvets.

I went with the standard graphite shafts they are offering. I switched to graphite with the Pings and my elbows thank me for it. As for the swing weight, I’m now use to lighter clubs. I think they come in at C10-D0, but haven’t had them measured.

Played another round yesterday and still think they are a keeper, except the Gap wedge. Still undecided on that club.

Purchased a set of the 0211s with the MMT shaft. I was surprised that four out of five irons measured out of spec with what I ordered.

Once adjusted, these are the best irons (for me) than I've experienced in many years.

I'm coming from PING G710s and the head size, offset, thinner sole, and sound/feel of the 0211s are much appreciated. I think they're every bit as forgiving as the PING SGI clubs. And the G710s have a loud, percussive sound that hurt my ears on impact.

At $95 per club, the 0211s with the MMT graphite shaft offer tremendous value. Five weeks from order to my doorstep.

Well I think the 0211 experiment is over. Took the newly shafted 0211 7 iron with the the modus 105 to the range to hit against my i e1's i 7 iron, I have been playing for 2 1/2 years, same shaft. The 0211's were a little better with the modus, but was hitting the i e1's soo much better, and honestly, to me, the i e1's feel softer, longer, and more consistent. I do feel alot of it is a swing weight issue with the 0211's. I thought the slightly heavier modus might have helped more. Never should have doubted the ping's in the first place. I have played some of my best iron games with them. But that's what happens when your a club ho!!

*5 ROUND UPDATE*

Very impressed with the performance of these clubs.

Key Takeaways:

No fliers / hot spots, yardages and dispersion have been consistentFeel is superb, shots feel very soft off of the face, even on slightly off center strikes.Forgiveness takes the spotlight. I had two iron shots that felt very low on the face and towards the heel. Both shots flew straight at the flag on a rope and were only 4-5 yards short of the intended yardage. Can't stress this enough, instead of off the green chips and 20-30 yard putts I had good looks at birdie.0211's are possibly the best value in golf right now. I got 5-PW for $400 less than similar options I looked at (P790s, Cobras, and Apex). $675- compared to $1075-1100 was a no brainer for me. And having demoed and played with the P790s I can say that 0211's were a much better performer for me in pretty much all aspects.
