You obviously can't defend walking in someone's line from a rational perspective.

The irony is that if we played golf together, I'd probably wait all day for you to hit your 3rd and 4th and 5th shot before it would be my turn to hit my 2nd.

A couple of beginners playing golf by holing every shot in a 4 hr round? Where's the problem here? I understand the 1' putt for sure, but when did a 4 hr round by a 4 some become taboo?

Weren't beginners, just sucked....Holding up other groups early AM (including us) makes for a less than enjoyable experience. Keep pace with group in front of you, not the clock.

This post will officially conclude the debate of whether walking in someone's line will affect their putt. The answer is a definite yes. Not only will foot Impressions still be evident, but the mental aspect also will hamper a golfer. End of debate!

Sometimes in my Monday night league, I get paired with the guy that carries like 18 fairway metals. He hits them all the same distance, but I'll be damned if he doesn't pull his range finder out for every shot (even from 200+) to get a number. Oh, and he also takes 3-4 practice swings before stepping into every shot.

The worst! One of the guys in our regular foursome is like this -- shoots 120+ but thinks he's a tour player. Takes 10 practice swings then stands over the ball for 20 seconds before he hits it. Call him the Pacebreaker. Not only does he kill our pace on course, he absolutely blows up the rest of our games because we're waiting 2 minutes between shots. Have a feeling he's gonna get replaced in the foursome soon.

Maybe this was already covered, but I'm not a huge fan of the guy who lasers all of his pitches. Come on, my guy. Do you really need to laser a 30 yard pitch?

Yeah I am that guy, my excuse is that my depth perception is a bit screwed up because of some problems with my vision. Anyway it does seem to help me to know the distance is 30 yards. I do try to get the distance quickly and hopefully while someone else is playing their shot...

Hate the guys that laser chip shots two steps from the green . . . . or the guy standing one step in front of the 150-yard marker taking 5 minutes to laser a white (middle green) pin placement. Oh yea, these are 20 handicappers.

The guy I play with most frequently is just a generally pokey person and he definitely does not realize it. He thinks that he plays fast and everyone else slow, and it's true that he spends little time lining up shots or deciding on clubs. I don't know that he lines up any putts, rather he just gets to the ball and whacks it. So the golf part is fast.

But it's the non-golf parts that he is a turtle at. He's slow moving, constantly stopping to light up a cigarette or stub it out, or take a long sip of coffee, or tell me a story that I've heard a million times. It takes him forever to write down the score and put his headcover on. He even drives the cart slow somehow! It also doesn't help that he can't hit the ball over 175 yards.

But he's family and I love him and all, so it's just the cost of doing business.

I laser everything due to Strokes Gained. 7 HCP. It does make a difference.

i think about threads like this every time I pull out my laser under 60 yards. And I sometimes leave the laser in the bag trying to not be “that guy”...but it definitely helps me to know the yardage, if for no other reason than conviction over the shot I’m about to play.

For some reason, when I play golf I’m far too concerned with what others think about me. I’m not really that way with most things I do...it’s primarily a golf thing.

Great, now everyone is going to come out of the woodwork to report how lasering is good for their game. Nobody said it doesn't help any golfers, just that there is a good portion of golfers for which lasering does not make a difference. The average golfer (which is obviously noone on this site) isn't someone who can hit an exact number and for many it is a detriment for them to attempt to do so. For them, and I include myself here, guesstimating "I'm about 170-175 from here" is just as good as knowing their 178 or 166.

I feel you man. Just played with people that drive the cart up on me while I'm hitting, can't stop talking during your swing, insist they mark their ball before I chip, walk non stop on the green while I'm putting, and complain they need a lesson because they're playing horrible lol.

My normal group is 4 but I played with this group that just so happened to have five. (tee time was booked for 4)

 

They let you play five around here as long as you have 4 people riding. I always walk.

To Laser or not to Laser. I used to play with a guy who has played our course literally hundreds of times, and he fell into the habit of shooting everything. "Huh, I didn't know it was 73 yards from here." Seriously, how many club players have a stock 60 yard shot?
