Rory SIM MAX 3W Shaft

Anyone have an idea on his new SIM MAX fairway shaft? I'm sure its obvious, just haven't seen it before.

I wonder what the Max has that the normal 3 wood doesn’t have? I mean, they said he was turning over his previous 3 wood and missing left with it too much. What would the Max have to help with that? I thought the Max was more forgiving, weight moved back farther, which I would think would allow for more of a draw.

I strongly doubt he's playing a retail SIM Max head. There is a smaller headed tour version like there was with the M6. Maybe he prefers the bonded hosel over the regular sim or the titanium head goes too far for him. Plus if he's missing it left, I am sure his new one has some melt in the toe.

Tour Sim MAX is similar to the tour M6. Much deeper face and smaller profile with the hot melt port.

I thought maybe it was a kk Xts to match the driver.

To me looked like his Kuro Kage shaft that he has in the driver (but probably 10g heavier). The Tensei RAW shafts still have the white/blue/oj colored band, and I didn't really see that.

I know he’s playing a Tour issued smaller version but I also assumed he was playing a tour issued smaller version of the SIM 3 wood as well. Also wonder why they couldn’t put hot melt in that to compensate for the lefts.

Because the amount of hot melt it takes to change cg and ball flight is somewhere between 5grams and a shit ton. He doesn't need the distance. It would make ore sense to go with the higher moi. His misses are mostly in the toe and that's never been a friendly fairway wood spot to miss in without a little extra loft. Sim Rocket is driver 1/b.

Its harder to see due to the white band not standing out, but its the AV Raw White in his 3-wood. Although you're right in that from anywhere else other than close up it looks a lot like the XTS in his driver. I'd love to know why he has never gamed the XTS in his fairways given how devoted to the driver shaft he has been for so long.

Wow the two look so similar on TV. Maybe the tensei just offers a little more launch for him?

Yeah, on TV the main difference is just that the white graphics on the XTS go much further down the shaft. Here is the only good shot I could find of the AV White in his 3-wood:

As for why, only he knows I guess! He was all Tensei White last year, and prior to that he was Rombax 95 in his fairways for ages (Tensei Pro Blue 90TX in there for a minute I think).

Looks like the SIM Max with the Tensei Raw White was in the first 2 days but on the weekend (definitely Saturday) Rory went back to the SIM fairway with the Tensei Pro White shaft.
