Recommendations for long irons to combo with MP-64

I am currently playing MP-64 with DG S300 shafts in 3-PW. They are great clubs, but I think I would benefit by replacing the 3 iron (and maybe the 4 iron) with heads that are a bit more forgiving. Any suggestions?

I have a ~9 index and my driver swing speed is ~105, but those should improve a far bit by the end of this summer. I started playing again last summer after a 20 year break and this summer I am training, stretching, and playing a ton. Hence I would perfer to buy something used and a few years old, I am waiting for my game to plateau before getting fit for new clubs.

I would equate MP64 to the JPX 919Ti and S300 are haft weight by today’s standard. Since you have your swing stretch out down to the 4 iron, you have a lot of options.

Callaway UDI would gap well. Any UDI, hollow head, cavity back and even GI iron in that slot. Ping, Titleist, Mizuno, Srixon, Cobra...you aren’t short for choices

I had a set of MP-64 irons a few years ago. They were fantastic. I wasn't entirely comfortable with the S300 so I started soft-stepping them which didn't work out so well. I replaced the entire set after that experiment.

But instead of ending up in a different style of iron I ended up with my present set of Titleist CB irons which are more or less the same. What changed was that I started using the S300 AMT shafts which get lighter from one club to the next. Instead of a 130g shaft in the long irons, it's more like 110g. That makes a lot of difference to me as I feel I can really get the ball up much more easily.

So I would consider AMT shafts as opposed to simply replacing 1 or 2 irons. But if you go that route, your options will include hollow-headed driving irons along with larger cavity-back irons like the Mizuno JPX series.

If you like Mizuno, try the MP20 HMB.

Sorry this autocorrect is horrible. S300 as heavy by today’s standards. Dropping 130 grams down to 120 or even 115 grams to today’s shafts and technology may aid in lifting the long irons itself.

I found a half set (3-6) of MP-54 with KBS Tour 120 stiff shafts. I can return them and go for something more drastic if they don't do the trick.

I’d say go for it!

Ive player KBS before, they are easy to launch, mid-flight but penetrating.

KBS was stock on the MP18SC so it should pair well with any Mizuno head.

Thanks for the suggestions about shaft weight, I was not even considering that. I am very happy with the 3-6 MP-54's with KBS Tour 120 shafts that I ended up getting.

Was considering this myself, 7-PW 64’s & maybe MP-H4 or H5’s 4-6 hollow head irons.

I had the mph5 4iron matched up with mp15’s a few seasons back. The h5 is so easy to hit and launch.

I'm still gaming MP54. Was going to suggest them but it looks like you found them anyway.

The long and mid irons (3-6) have a slot in the muscle back which helps with impacts low in the face, and also gets the ball up in the air quickly.

They have minimal offset and are not too much larger than the 64s you have.

I play jpx 850 4 and 5 irons with my mp 64s

I had 919 Hot metal pro 4 and 5 iron to go with my mp64 set. They worked well. Not totally the same look but they were good enough performance-wise that I just sacked up and went with it. Definitely not disappointed.
